The Magic Ship Thread

Danielle, I would like to say thank you to you and all the moderators and staff who do an upstanding job of keeping us all on track here at SSC. I am personally grateful to be able to come here and use all the resources that are available plus ask questions and share information with others in such an honest and open fashion. Thank you for the email informing me that one of my posts has been edited as it contained a trademark name. I certainly do apologize for this. Since reading the user agreement after my first error, I have tried really hard not to intentionally use any trademark names. I would appreciate knowing which one I used so that I can prevent making the same mistake again. Your request to "Please do try to keep this thread focused primarily on smoking cessation and all things related to quitting like milestones, victories over triggers..." is well directed and understood. I would like to offer some information for your consideration when specifically addressing the postings here in the Magic Ship Thread. At first glance, some will not see the seriousness in this thread. Let me assure you that our small group of "buddies" are completely dedicated to our quits, maintaining our quits and preventing short or long-term relapse. Within our banter, you will clearly see examples of all things related to quitting like: Milestones - we try to celebrate as each and every one of us finishes hell week and heck week, or any milestone and we contemplate distant milestones. We ask about and share what rewards we are giving ourselves. We address our victories over triggers - such as not smoking during extremely stressful situations and more common daily situations that crop up. I cannot speak for anyone but myself, but it is clear to me that we are serious even though we use a lot of humour in sharing our experiences. Every individual who visits SSC will look for and hopefully find their own best reasons, tactics, methods, plans and coping mechanisms when quitting this serious addiction. Not everyone will benefit from this thread, but I for one find it very helpful and hope you will allow it to continue in its present humourous format. I believe this humour is of great benefit to the individuals posting within the Magic Ship

Freemom, Welcome back to the Magic Ship bound for the Land of Quit. We respect your honesty and telling us the truth onboard. Sorry, but you now get's your poking, cause you were smoking. Not tryin to single you out, but here on the Magic Ship, we're all one puff away from our packs a day...so no more puffin and you'll get no more pokin. The plank is reserved for those who's desire to smoke is greater than their desire to quit. Please stay onboard, as we can see you have the desire. Now, please allow me to be serious for a moment eveyone....this is how I feel and is directed at myself to reinforce my own quit. ***************************************** I second the statement: PLEASE DO NOT CALL THIS A HABIT...IT IS AN ADDICTION, and we are indeed all addicts here. Unless we recognize this simple truth, the demon will get us every time he speaks his junkie thoughts. He will speak to us often until he weakens and withers away. Then he will hibernate....waiting for us to forget the truth. He is an evil, greedy addiction, very smooth and persuasive...he will go to ANY LENGHTH to keep us under his spell. We did not buy the package of cigarettes, the addiction did through our bodies. The demon cried when we threw out any cigarettes, surely if we listened closely, we could hear him cry. Should we ever buy a pack again, we may never have any intention of smoking more than one, but the addiction certainly will. We may never plan to ever smoke another, but know for fact the addiction is planning to try to get us to do that right this very minute. We can beat him now, and it will get much easier, but we can never let our guard down and must remain vigilant. In addition, the statement "I argued back and forth in the car with myself" is also incorrect, in my humble opinion. There is never an argument when we lack knowledge...we simply listen to the voice of ADDICTION and do not know who is speaking. Sorry, if I sound stern....but this is how I must face the nicodemon...the addiction loves all my weaknesses and will STOP AT NOTHING if there is any crack he can worm his way into. He will not just hurt my throat...he will fill it with cancer and close it off. He will not just make my hair stink...he will cover the hairs ins

Good Morning Maties!!! It's a beautiful day for sailing on to the Land of Quit. Thanks for letting me speak yesterday :8o: and there is just one teeny, tiny little concept I'd like to mention before we start this party once again. ************************************ It's almost impossible to type words that convey the tone or true essence of exactly how I feel on this intensely personal subject. I will attempt to clarify. Please know, I AM NOT ANGRY in the least about my quit (this is not shouting...just stating calmly and assertively), but JOYOUS and HAPPY to be freeing myself from my addiction. I am passionate about this--to be sure, confident in my quit--undoubtedly and my resolve is firm and uncompromising within my core because I have found my full power to win my battles. The only spark of anger I have left is that I did not find my power sooner and that I cannot give anyone the key to their own truth...we must each find it for ourselves...it is different for each of us. It hurts me greatly to see people who "slip" or regress or just plain give up, because I know it is the addiction winning simply because these lovely human beings have not or can not find the truth they need to set themselves free. Sadly, some will search, but in vain and never find their key to the Magic ship. I can steer, but never lead them where they need to be. Even though I am surrounded by every possible support, I, like each of us must sail the seas to freedom on my own. It is much easier to sail aboard the Magic Ship, but if you throw me in the ocean I will simply float to the Land of Quit. I do not have to do my sailing with fear, hate, uncertainty or despair. I can choose to make this journey as easy or difficult as I like. If I have any feelings that this battle is too hard, or difficult to win, then I have not found my full power and need to keep learning. I can simply choose to welcome what comes with an open mind, an arsenal of knowledge, a plan to succeed and a promise to myself to keep sailing in the face of any storm. There is no try for me, there is only do. ********************* Now, could someone please start the music for today and LET'S PARTY PEOPLE!!!!!! Luv to all, Pat My Milage: My Quit Date

Good Morning all you shipmates and Capn M, Sounds like were all busy today and sailing smoothly to Jamaica. The Magic is on autopilot today, no bumps, no waves, and no worries about our weather. Please standby for our arrival in our new port tomorrow. Today the ships flag flies at half-mast, as one of our crew must pay their last respects to a passing friend :( On a happy note, this morning a girl-child is born :) Tomorrow is a better day.....it's Tuesday....and we dock in sunny Jamaica! Phil, please pop in with a nice one liner for us if you will. Lady, words of wisdom are always welcome when entering a new port! Let's chill the wine and warm up the chocolates. Who's got the music this week and how many cooks are in the galley? Im off to tidy the pool area and scrub the decks clean. First mate, Pat * hums loudly while swabbing energetically * Sugar pie, honey bunch You know that I love you I can't help myself I love you and nobody else -The Four Tops My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 15 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 623 Amount Saved: $210 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 19 Mins: 39 Seconds: 2
