First huge fight with hubby after quit......I almost

smoked. I grabbed my keys three times to go to the store. The only thing that stopped me was the closest store was closed already and he said if I went and bought a pack of cigarettes I was a loser. Man that ticked me off. He also quit by the way. Anyway, I find it hard to deal with too many things at once, he's still wearing the patch so I guess he's in the mood to fix everything at once. I'm talking about our relationship. Anyway, I just had a bad night, but I have to tell you, when I woke up this morning, and I didn't smell like smoke, and I didn't have the feeling in my lungs like I had just smoked a carton of cigarettes overnight. I was very proud of myself. But I can tell it is going to be trying if certain people continue to want to deal with stressful situations during this critical time of my quit. But, I guess that's part of it. Learning how to cry without smoking, learning how to scream if necessary, without smoking.... It was so hard. :( My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/2/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 25 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 765 Amount Saved: $200 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 23 Mins: 14 Seconds: 1

Drums -- along with a punching bag....WOW!!! Great idea... for us...I don't know about everyone else you live with!! :) Then when someone starts talking about things that make me want to smoke I could just grab the drumsticks and whack away... hilarious...feeling much better now, just thinking about that. Good job for hangin' in there, Sugar! I was thinking today of learning to play the drums. Think what a stress reliever that would be! Maybe I could release the tension to the beat! Good to see you laughing, Sugar! I'm liking the drum idea better all the time... think how much better my jaw would feel (since I clench it all the time, while grinding my teeth)! Therapy... drums are necessary to keep us sane! Drumsticks... well... they would be handy to have around! Sugarnose, It was hard but you made it through! Start coming up with a plan for stressful times. A to-do list if you will of things you must try to do first before you can pick up those keys. Keep up the great progress and reward yourself for overcoming temptation. This is a learning experience and you're doing great! Danielle ______________________ The SSC Support Team

you are right....these times are really tough! but remind yourself....you are WINNING!! you didn't smoke!! Some of the tension, the stress, the anger, are due to both you guys saying NO to your addictions....even if hubby has the patch still, there are urges to smoke. Sometimes the anger is just a way around the urge?? We used to sooth the emotions by giving ourselves a nicotine fix....now we must fact the music head on. when the anger clears, try to find a common ground that you both can retreat to when this happens again....and I would have to be in agreement that this isn't exactly the right time to try to handle "other" problems....if you can both "agree" to that when you are cool, then avoid these subjects that send you into orbit. and it IS ok to scream...to punch pillows...to take a run...run till you are gasping....then tell yourself you can't do that while smoking.....then REWARD time....do NOT neglect rewards!!! That's the part you get cause it IS hard...but you are DOING it! congratulations....it will get better I promise Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1849 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 73,982 Amount Saved: $10539.3 Life Gained: Days: 243 Hrs: 22 Mins: 6 Seconds: 12
