Don't speak if you haven't quit....

Deli, A Capricorn...or just stubborn?!?!? Hehe.... I really, really want her to quit though, but I refuse to be preachy with her. Actually, I am not a preachy person...I believe we all make our own choices. However, my sister will argue that much harder in her own defense if you preach. I just try to support her if she needs it. I can only help those who help themselves...b/c I am still in the process of trying to help myself and I cannot help anyone else until I have helped myself....so, yeah.... Oh wow Deli, I just noticed your Stats....seeing them is quite encouraging...you are an inspiration!!!! Thanks all for letting me rant and for supporting me. I just know that when she does decide to quit, I will be there to help her through it...whatever she needs. But, wow, it's amazing how much that teeny little statement irked me. Hey Imallclear, I'm not quite sure how to take that response. I was kind of kidding around when I said I wanted to slap her...I was using it more as a figure of speech. Please trust me when I say I do not agree with physical violence in ANY fashion. My sister has been quite opinionated her entire life...and I was just venting about this particular situation. I am sorry if you have taken my post as anger, for I never meant for it to come off as such. I hope you are having a nice day/evening (whatever it is, wherever you may be)! 74 days is very impressive...keep staying strong! Thanks Tutti...every day it's getting easier. That and I just found out that I have Celiacs Disease. Which means after Monday, I will never be able to eat anything that has wheat, rye, barley or oats in it...anything with gluten has to be eliminated from my diet for the rest of my life. Since the blood test came back positive this week, I have almost forgot about smoking...it's definitely helped to suppress the cravings! I am going to be missing the gluten more than the smoking...for I have been a carb/gluten addict my whole life...and I am not joking when I say that. That said, if I can get through quitting 2 very strong and powerful addictions simulataneously....I can do ANYTHING!!!!! I also think the fact that I am able to come here to vent is so very helpful. I was able to keep my cool in front of my sister because of that...this place is the best therapist EVER!!!!! ...and I'm staying strong with ya....thanks again!!!! Whynot: Oh, my husband has quit with me as well...and anytime I talk about it, he is the same way. Mind you, he has only been smoking like 5 a day for a few years...where as I have been smoking a pack a day for 11. Please understand, we are both cranky and moody...both our sleep is being disrupted...this is difficult for both of us. I just think that because I have been smoking more, and for longer they had a bit more control over me. He still had willpower not to smoke even when we were smoking...where as I would want one and I HAD to have one. I totally understand what you are going through though. Thanks everyone for the great advice. My sister is a bit stubborn. Sometimes, it's easier not to argue or converse with her because you WILL NOT WIN and what she believes is right. She is a true Capricorn (no offense to any capricorns on here, I am a truely flighty Gemini)! Butterfly Swimmer: I think your idea of showing her these responses is something that may just get through to her eventually. I really want her to quit too...if for any other reason than she has some chronic medical issues and REALLY should quit. I am definitely staying strong. I always told myself, when I was a smoker, that if I could quit for just one whole day, I could do it forever....and I am finally doing it. Nothing can turn me back to smoking...life is way too short....... Thanks for listening and thanks for letting me rant! ...and I don't mean that in a bad way, just towards my sister. I suppose this is a little rant of sorts. Okay, I love my sister dearly, I really, really do, but I wanted to slap her last night! Her and her boyfriend were talking to me about how it's going with the quitting. So I was telling 'em all about it. I was saying that the first 2 days were pretty smooth and the 3rd day it hit me like a ton o' bricks! Then I was telling them it is becoming easier and easier to suppress the cravings now. So my sister (who is STILL smoking and who has NEVER quit) tells me that all of my cravings should have been gone by the 3rd day. So I told her that while that may be true for a few, everyone is different and there are some people who will crave forever, but are strong enough not to listen (and I happen to know a bunch of 10-20+ year ex-smokers who still crave sometimes). She actually sat there, shaking her head "NO" like I was wrong. Me, who has not picked up a cigarette in days...while she is STILL smoking! I had to walk away because she was pissing me off. Don't speak as if you know, if you have never quit, or even made an attempt to quit....or even done research for that matter! Grrrrrrr...thanks for letting me rant! I also think she may be a bit jealous because I have been able to quit...who knows. Tell her to try quiting herself and keep a log. At that time you'll be open to having the same conversation with her. Heya Jaz, you really have a positive attitude and that's wonderful. A lot of folks fight against having to follow a strict diet, leaving out all of those foods they love, but you're doing great. Not to mention you have a great Quit going on there. Keep that positive attitude because it really keeps you strong. Jaz, did you know that nicotine dumps glucose into your bloodstream? I did NOT know that until I came to this site. Now, I'm having to cut back on my insulin because my blood sugar keeps dropping. Of course, my doctor knows exactly how much insulin I was taking and he's actually the one who decreased me by one unit in the morning and one unit at night. I'm Type 2 Diabetic. I can't help but wonder if nicotine has played a part in Celiacs Disease. I mean, the disease may not be as severe now that you've kicked nicotine out for good. We can sure enough hope and pray for that, can't we? My blood sugar isn't running as high so maybe Celiacs will be easier for you to manage as well. Hugs, Tutti PS I can't have oatmeal either and I love it. Oh man, I hear you Jaz. I did have to look up Celiacs Disease and Gluten but, we're close to being in the same boat. You CAN stick to the diet too. You have no choice. With me, I'm diabetic so ALL carbs are all but gone. Protein is my friend but anything made out of flour, cornmeal, and even wheat shoots my glucose level through the roof. The lighter colored that veggies are, i.e. corn, sweet peas, potatoes, lima beans, the worse they are for me. I have to just stay away from those but I can have all of the lean meat and all of the other veggies. I do have to keep my carb amount to 7 to 10 grams per meal, depending on how active I am. I can't eliminate them completely or my blood sugar will go too low. I have that diet to stick to for the rest of my life too so I know you can do it. It's a sorry hand but we have to play it out. I read that folks with Celiacs Disease are often lactose intolerant too. Is that true in your case? Hun, you can stick to the diet and just know, you're going to lose some weight from that diet. Once you have to cut those carbs way down, it happens. Now carbs are your long lasting energy so what will you be eating to sustain your energy. Protein, like in meat, is fast acting energy and burns off so fast. Oh yes, and I was your bread, potatoes, corn, and gravy with biscuits kind of gal all of my life. Phfft!!! Vent all you want. We all do....we need to. You're doing great!! Heya Jaz, Congratulations on a great Quit!! You're doing a wonderful job. Just to get us back on track here regarding your post...If your sister was right, Oh God I wish your sister was right, I wouldn't have woke up this morning with a huge, grit my teeth, hanging on by my fingernails, craving that's pissing me off. YES, it's pissing me off. And guess what, there's nothing wrong with getting angry.........It's what you do out of that anger that gets you into trouble....like lighting up a cigarette for example, perhaps slapping the crap out of someone, or turning into a serial killer. LOL Anger itself isn't the problem. Next, someone will be trying to tell me that it was wrong for Jesus to become angry at the money changers in the temple and thereby turning over the tables. So Jaz, you're just fine and I'm just fine. ;) You became angry and you ranted.....but you sure didn't hurt anyone. Fact is, I think you handled yourself very well. I'm thoroughly pissed off that I've been bombed with a monster craving this morning but, I'm just venting. Stay Strong with Me Jazz. You're looking good there!!
