Thank you all! Gonna...sounds like we have alot in common. I was born, raised and married in the military too. Acutally right now I have "The itch" to move because we have been in the same place for 5 years now. I have my patches, gonna try that, I have my fruit and veggies handy and I have dusted off the elepitcal (hope I spelled that right, goin to get to know it well) I havent told my kids yet, because as I said this has been on my mind, Ive seen signs all over, more often as well. They will be home tomorrow..went with Dad to his family xmas time. I had to work. This is a choice I made for me mainly....like my Dad says "I want to live long enough to use up my kids inherintance" Thanks for the support...tomorrow morning is the new day for me! Everything is in place and I am ready! Tonight I am getting rid of the ashtrays, spraying the furniture, washing my coat, getting all of the physical excuses out of my house! Peace! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/31/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Hello, Im Dawn, 34 yr old married mom of 2 awesome boys! The last few weeks I have gotten signs that I need to quit smoking. All I talk about is how awesome my kids are, how great they are in school, sports and at home. Everything I say is true too.. they Rawk! Before I have made excuses why I cant quit this time... to many to list and no reason to. The only thing I need to list now is the reasons why I should quit. I wont lie, I am scared. Scared that Im losing a part of me if I quit, maybe that seems odd but in a deep way, its how I feel. I could always rely on the time out to get outside to smoke. Now I need to find another reason to get a time out. I have quit before... errr I should say I have tried to quit. I do have a goal, besides seeing my two boys when they are getting grey hair and I can tease them like they are me. hehe! Cancer runs in my family, as close as me.... I had cervical cancer and had a hysterectomy in 1999. So you are probably asking.. wow woman, why didnt you give up those cancer sticks then? Well I did, then my husband went to Iraq so I tricked myself into believing that smoking would ease the tension.. WRONG! Last night as I watched the news was the last draw! Over the last few weeks, Ive seen signs all over, TV, road signs, different slogans that could be read as (Girl you need to stop now)... well last night when I saw on the news that Saddam was finally put to his death I was able to breath again.. I took a few deep breaths and had tears, for joy for the Iraqi's and when I described my feeling to my husband I said "I can breath again"... something that wasnt as clear since the moments before he told me he had orders to go to war. Well I am breathing a sigh of relief and in a different sense I am breathing with less weight on my heart. Now I want more of that weight lifted. I want to breath fresh air again! I hope this all makes sense to you, hope to get to know you and be smoke free together!

Hi Dawn,I have never posted before and I never thought I could get out of bed and function without smoking. Please take your "time out"by surfing the net for any and all info to educate you for your quit and then take your time to work through the online program offered here.I often work through cravings/withdrawal by doing this and I get distracted and encouragement at the same time. I liked the patches at first because it was easier to get out of the physical habits (hand to mouth, trip outside at work) and then to lozengers for more control(less nicotine), then to zyban then nothing. Now every few days I crave a lozenger, not a puff!If something isn't working for you don't be afraid to try something else (not a puff!)I know you can do it ! Born, raised and married into the military... Kissed him goodbye several times as he headed to the middle east and in my spare time raised our five children and was a police detective. I found LOADS of excuses to keep smoking. I can still provide a list for you today... but, they are just that...excuses. Get your mind set right and jump in. Don't quit quitting. The only person that can benefit is you...and your family! Good luck! Stay strong and post often! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 113 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,690 Amount Saved: $904 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 17 Mins: 0 Seconds: 1

Dawn, Welcome to the SSC and congratulations on making the decision to quit smoking! Please start working through our online quit program. Preparation and education ourselves on the quit process are essential. Also be sure to start reading through our forums. They are full of advice from quitters that have gone before you. If you ever need help just holler. A post with help in the title will get you a quick reply. If you feel you would benefit from 1-1 interaction, we have an instant messenger that will connect you with the other members of our site. Once you've planned how you'll tackle cravings and triggers such as stress and boredome, you'll need to start dreaming up a reward system. The benefits of quitting are wonderful but giving ourselves something tangible and immediate keeps us motivated and helps to lift our moods. If you have any questions, again we are always ready & willing to lend a helping hand. We hope to hear from you again soon. Danielle __________________________ The SSC Support Team

Dawn, Stopping smoking is 90% a mind set thing & yes it does change you but boy what a ride ! There are specific stages you go through when 'quitting' the more you know about the stages the better equiped you will be. May i suggest a quick way to understand these stages - read Allen Carr's book & you will understand. Allen suggests that you can actually smoke while you read his book so no pressure. oh.... i don't work for Allen it's just that this book helped open my eyes wheni went Cold Turkey.
