Hi Jenga, it's the toughest thing I've ever, ever done. You've received some great advice. Keep up the good work. The end result will be worthwhile! Hang in there and well done reaching out. I am reading and reseraching and my eyes are sore but it is helping me. The tools here are great too. Marie

Thanks Kaiti. No I'm not female, but if getting in touch with my feminine side helps, I'm willing to try. Thanks again for the support. Hey Jenga, I think you are doing great to have eight days completed! When you get those bad "scrounge through trashcans for butts" cravings, just remember that if you smoke, whatever sent you on the trashcan mission will still be there and need to be solved. When the cig icons in your head are talking to you saying: "pick me, pick me", find something else to do instead. Go outside in the sun or cold or whatever you have, and get your mind on something else. Hang in there! You're doing awesome! Heck week is just heck! Hi Jenga, Your beating an addiction, and sometimes it's difficult. Your mind is racing, your anxious, you don't know what to do with yourself. Please have patience with yourself. Just take it one hour, one day at a time. Have you rewarded yourself yet. My rewards really got me through my first few weeks. If I was struggling or feeling down, I would head to the store and purchase something small for myself. Some ideas are a good book, a candle, a magazine (I'm hoping your female...I've made this mistake before). Some lotion..anything that makes you feel good. Keep posting here also, and keep reading. You can make it through this. Be creative! Jenga, Hang in there!! have you read old posts? there has been loads of specifics on suggestions on what to do for a crave. You need to do whatever you have to do to beat that crave. Are you at work? get up, run the block, jog the stairs, stick something non-cancerous in your mouth. are you at home? run the block, jog the stairs, walk the dog, do something nice for someone, do that project you've been putting off for (let's be honest) years, put something non-cancerous in your mouth, stand on your head (only with a dr.'s note). A crave will pass, really, whether or not you smoke. If you chose to smoke then you are guarenteed more craves in the future. If you don't smoke, then you are that much more closer to not having these monsterous notions in the future. This one works for me - look in the mirror. When I'm in the throws of a crave, i am disgusted by what I see. Get serious :eg: get tough. Hi Jenga - I wish I could draw you a picture so you could see the road that many of us travel on this journey. There are so many good moments....but there are lots of rough spots along the way. 8 days is great....but you are still in the most difficult part of your quit......better days are ahead. My quit started to feel more like "mine" when I started to follow people's advice and make some changes to my lifestyle (I used to stay up late and smoke - Now I go to bed early and get up early for the gym) It is also SO important to reward yourself (Now....here is where gender plays a difference because bubble baths and candles just might not do it for you)....Go to a hockey game, buy something you wanted (a dvd, cd, book, etc.), Is there anything that you really like as a treat? (i.e. specialty coffee/going out for dinner). Rewards seemed kinda silly to me at the beginning because they didn't seem to compare to my need to feed my addiction......it wasn't till later that I realized how important it was to do things that made me feel good! Keep up the good work.......better days ahead! Jenga I am here.. The first few days are the worst and the whole experience is not a honeymoon but you dont want to go through those 8 days again do you? After 50 years of smoking 20 a day that was the one thought that kept me going over and over again. Keep busy Keep active Plan a 10 day reward a big one! Drink lots of water. Shout at someone (Me if you like!) BE PROUD OF YOURSELF!!!!
