Another Thing I have To Quit...

Hi, 2tone. Alcohol is one of the greatest quit-killers there is. It lowers your control, allowing Ol' Nic more influence, as you've learned. There are those here at the SSC who have experienced what you just did. Some of those did in fact slip. Most are still here with new, strong, successful quits. Congratulations on winning the battle, 2tone. Keep up the great quit. 2tone, I know exactly what you're talking about. I too enjoy the occassional drink. My quit so far has been relatively easy to maintain until yesterday, when for the first time since I quit I was confronted with beer. I drank the beer and immediately the thought of a cigarette was overwhelming. I think that's good advice to stay away from alcohol in the beginning of a quit. At least until you are confident in yourself. Karen. Hi 2tone, Yes, drinking and smoking do go hand-in-hand - until you decide to quit one or both! Some people have had their quits threatened by drinking alcohol but normally they are the ones who want to smoke more than they want quit - that stands to reason. Want to quit smoking? Quit. Want to smoke? Smoke - but don't blame alcohol for a weak resolve. Alcohol is unfairly much-maligned on this site and is just another excuse to light up again - an excuse that some are looking for. Congratulations on maintaining your willpower and staying quit despite the alcohol provocation and good luck with the other triggers that you will undoubtedly encounter before this job is done. All the best to you.
