i give up smoking at midnight, and already i am wavering. don't get me wrong, i am gonna do this. but i feel like i am giving something up, rather than stopping something if you see what i mean. i have 3 cigarettes left and i keep feeling that i should enjoy each one of them to the full as they will be my last. but that is not how it is supposed to be!!! earlier today i was feeling that i couldnt wait to stop being a slave to the nicotine, now i am scared of stopping! dreading it even! oh how things have changed in the short space of 18 hours! i am gonna try picturing really gross things when i smoke my last cigarette. like the contents of a nappy (diaper to you americans!), a spittoon full to overflowing, really mouldy food, etc. hopefully i will only be to eager to put out my last ever ever ever cigarette. but i am getting nervous now! usually when i am nervous i .... well smoke! you will probably be seeing alot of me over the next few days! :8o: thanks for the vent!

ok phew! it was just a slight waver! been one hour and thirty two minutes since my last cigarette, and i am so glad! tomorrow morning may be different all together, but i am fully determined to quit for ever and i am expecting to feel like a bag of crap at times! my other half also quit with me, he is starting patches tomorrow! he had a few cigarettes left in his pack and we broke them up and chucked them in the bin! it was quite empowering actually! thanks for the kind words of support guys :) sarah

Hi formyson, today is my start date and I have done ok so far. I understand how you are feeling I experienced similar thoughts last night. Another member suggested getting mad at the habit, dont tell yourself you have to quit tell yourself you are choosing to quit. Tell that last cigarette you smoke tonight that you are taking charge of your body and that they can no longer control you because you are choosing not to be a smoker. Sounds silly and simple but sometimes the easiest soloutions are silly simple ones. Good luck and know that you are not alone there are many out here dealing with similar thoughts and challenges. If stopping were easy I am sure many of us would not have been smokers for the past 10/20/30 ... years. We can do this, hang tough. Debbie

Hi, formyson! Doesn't the name you chose for yourself here say it all? Don't let the nicodemon get in front of that. Butterfly Swimmer is right. Take it in small chunks of time. I know that I cannot look at my quit as forever, really. Not yet. I am up to it for a day at a time, though. It does get easier! We can do this together. Stay strong! :)Pat. Sarah, if you're still awake, go to the Stats section and join the New Year Parade. You deserve it, so does your honey. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/29/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 29 Amount Saved: $10 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 6 Mins: 26 Seconds: 56

formyson, Take it all slowly and remember to breathe deeply in and out when you feel nervous or when you feel a crave. Take it one minute, one hour, one day at a time. Your son will be forever grateful for the gift you are giving him .. it's the greatest gift of all hon :) Do you have your tools in place? Do you have a crave cart ready with all of your favourite snacks to reward yourself for not having a smoke or for that hand to mouth thing us smoker's USED to have? Do you have hobbies, passions that you love to do but haven't done them for what seems like forever? Stay in the day you are in and make the most of each day by using a lot of distractions>>> by the way... you're more than welcome to come over to my house and search for dirt!!! HAHA on you.. my home is spotless! (I think I have a definite cleaning disorder ever since I quit!) We're here for you hon.. it's the best decision you'll ever make :) Monica58 My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/31/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 61 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,236 Amount Saved: $549 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 17 Mins: 52 Seconds: 14

Sarah, Try not to think of this as forever. We each only quit for a day - today. We can't change yesterday and we can't do anything about tomorrow until it gets here. So just quit for today. And if today is too long, then quit for 5 minutes. And then in 5 minutes, quit for 5 more minutes. Those minutes and days add up and before you know it, you're sitting at over a year going "has it been this long already?!?!" Don't get me wrong, at first, a day feels like a week and a week feels like a month and a month is completely unfathomable!!! But if you just take it 5 minutes at a time, you'll do fine! Also, try not to think of it as "giving up" anything. What exactly are you giving up? Bad breath, a cough, a stench that follows you everywhere you go. What are you gaining? Life, time (both the physical time that we spent smoking AND the time we will gain by being on this earth longer), money, health, senses of smell and taste... the list just goes on! You can do this Sarah! You obviously want to, otherwise you wouldn't be here. Just focus on the here and now. That's all any of us can do. Crave the Quit! Everything you are feeling is normal for where you are at in your quit journey. Find some peace in that fact. How you are feeling at this moment will not last forever. Each day will get better and better, with some bad days in between (maybe but not necessarily). Keep in mind that while we are all quitting together, everyone's quit is different depending on one's attitude, personality, physical health, etc. & that your quit is yours & no one else's. I'm hear to tell you that quitting can be done and that how you are feeling won't last forever. There is light at the end of the tunnel - believe this and keep putting one foot in front of the other. You'll get there.
