Tyler, This is one post I was very curious to read, because I will be taking wellbutrin and wearing the patch. Glad to read your experiences and congrats on 21 days of being smoke free! Will be happy to join you on Jan. 1. Cheers, Jan

Hi Tyler555 and Dunedad, I too quit with Wellbutrin and the patch. I also like you had trouble sleeping and if i did fall asleep then it was trouble staying asleep. I tried taking the patch off before bed as well and that at least stopped the nightmares, however I found that when i went down to the 14mg and 7mg the nightmares stopped and I could wear it at night. I am still on the wellbutrin, not only for smoking but other issues as well and the doc thinks that i will be more successful if I stay on it for the whole first year smoke free. Kinda believe this as when you read stories here they say it takes a year to truly get over it. Anyways I'm also an anxious person and turning off my brain at night has always been a difficult thing for me and I'm not sure but I don't think the wellbutrin helps me with that much. Might want to see your doc for something to help you sleep as well or try something over the counter. And Dunedad so lucky you can sleep when you get home from work...i've got a 3 month old puppy who is so excited to see me when I come home that its a couple hours before she winds down...sometimes I just let her jump on me while i lay on the sofa...lol. Anyways enough rambling, just thought I'd share my thoughts on wellbutrin and the patch, it definitely helped me with quitting and i'd recommend it to anyone, the sleep issue i haven't solved yet. Den2 you have to have the desire to want to stay quit as much as you have the desire to smoke. Which do you want? I'm taking my own advice. I'm now an ex-smoker. Congratulations on 21 days!!!! You have done some of the hardest parts of quitting so far, so you know you can continue. You are doing so well. Keep going. One day at a time. Hello Den, Happy, Parrot Lady and Kaiti have it right, you do need to want to quit more than to smoke. In my 40 years Den I tried to quit many times, and I failed as often. (My story is in the Hall of Fame if you are interested.) The longest I quit was for 3 months. This time, I approached it all so differently. I decided I needed preparation and knowlege to succeed. No more New Year's Resolutions down the tubes! They never worked for me anyway! I was lucky, I found this site at the start of my quest for knowlege, I did all the programme and set my date. In fact, I became so enthusiastic, I brought my quit date forward a week! I posted and read and learned. I had been doing things so wrongly before. I threw everything I had at this quit, as I felt time was not on my side. I might eventually die still smoking, or more likely because of smoking!!! Yes it was hard....it was sheer Hell for a while!!! The thing which got me through the Hell was this site and all the friends here who carried me when I was down. I realised that others had gone ahead of me. They had succeeded and could help me...this gave me the thing that makes a quit a success...DETERMINATION. I fought a battle with Nicodemon. I personified him and took it as an insult that he could beat me. I wanted to win this war so much. Right now, I feel I have won with a 2 year quit under my belt, but I never feel complacent. He is still there, and, given half a chance, would jump right back into my life if I let him. I will NOT allow that to happen! Knowlege is power over the addiction. I feel that power now...it's wonderful! Take heart Den, and take one day at a time. Those days mount up and if you are prepared get 'Attitude" and to fight off the Nicodemon each day, you will succeed! It will not happen overnight, and that is the other thing...patience. Allow time for your quit to become part of your new free life. WHATEVER IT TAKES, JUST DON'T SMOKE!!! Lolly. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/25/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 755 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 26,450 Amount Saved: 3775 Life Gained: Days: 105 Hrs: 3 Mins: 30 Seconds: 49

Hi again Tyler, Some longer term quitters say they are non-smokers, and they often find that this can help maintain their quit. Others find (Like some here have said, ) that they are ex-smokers. I'm one of those after 40 years of smoking! BUT, does it really matter?! The main thing is we do not smoke now and are determined not to smoke in the future. Lolly. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/25/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 754 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 26,406 Amount Saved: 3770 Life Gained: Days: 104 Hrs: 23 Mins: 19 Seconds: 52

Hi Tyler, Congratulations on that 21 days....they are so hard! Yes, I was smiling as I read your post! I was smiling 'cos I remember going through almost everything you described so vividly! It felt like Hell and I wondered if I had the strength to go on! I too used the patch and Wellbutrin together. It helped so much and the steps down were not too hard. I think, unless your doc. said to step down now, you might like to continue for one more week with the stronger patch. It took so long for you to learn to smoke, learning to quit takes as long, if not longer! You are doing all the right things to succeed so keep on keeping on!
However, I think that this time I will do it.
Tyler...don't just 'think' you will do it, tell yourself you WILL do it!!! It's all a question of determination and fight. Prepare to go to war with your addiction and you will win! Be positive! Come back here a lot! Read and post often. Believe me it works! I'd have failed without the help this site gave me. People here can help you to stay focused and positive. WHATEVER IT TAKES, JUST DON'T SMOKE!!! Lolly. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/25/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 753 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 26,377 Amount Saved: 3765 Life Gained: Days: 104 Hrs: 20 Mins: 34 Seconds: 8
