I am afraid

Misty, Congrats on your decision to be a non-smoker. Get ready for the journey! Prepare yourself with as much knowledge as you can, it really helps to know what cigarettes really do to your body. Read everything you can here on SSC, use all the tools on the left of the screen, get your coping strategies in place and most importantly, be kind to yourself! We've all been where you are, honey, don't be afraid to reach out for a helping hand. A positive attitude will help as well. Get excited about your quit and embrace it, protect it with every fiber of your being, it is worth it! Please come back and visit during the beginning of your quit. If you need advice or someone to talk to, this is the place to vent. Be proud of your decision to quit. Hi Misty - So sorry to be late in welcoming you. It is scary to quit smoking because after years of smoking we have fooled ourselves into believing that we need them. Every time we smoke, we ensure that we will go into a state of withdrawal. Thus, every time we smoke we feel better (because we were in withdrawal) After years of smoking, we start to think that smoking helped us deal with stress, helped us to socialize, helped us when we were bored, etc etc (when really all it has done is to relieve the symptoms of withdrawal) This is a journey and it is a learning process. Feel great about your quit but feel free to post no matter how you feel. There will be good days and bad days. Wishing you lots and lots of good days. Don't be afraid, Misty. We were all a little afraid at the thought of quitting, that's what addiction is about. You'll see, though, that once you have drawn up your plan on how to cope during the difficult times - and get to know some of the wonderful people here to join you in the good times as well as the bad - the fear was just fear of the unknown. Take a deep breath. Take the plunge. Misty, you are going to feel exactly the way you want to feel. I have more quits and starts than I can remember. What kept me going for that cig was fear. Poor baby can't deal with it, on and on. I kept going back to the cigs because I was not ready to stop. With this quit I read Allen Carr's book The Easy Way To Stop Smoking. I had read it once before, but again I excepted magic. This time it happened, because I was ready. I do not want to smoke ever again. I am (we are) glad you found us. Read often, post often and work the progam to the left. There are a lot of people here waiting to help. Have a Happy New Year!! No you aren't going to a funeral. You are going to feel more alive than ever. You are going to feel alot better in every which way. You will feel a lot better about yourself, breath a lot better, smell a lot better. Don't be scared we have all gone through this. Just take one day at a time. Eveyday when you wake up you can say "oh I made it one more day". Each day gets easier and easier. Believe me. NOPE (NOT ONE PUFF EVER) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/28/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 32 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 652 Amount Saved: $76.8 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 9 Mins: 43 Seconds: 33

Misty, You really don't want to suffer the fate of those you are caring for. Smoking kills. We are addicts and once we refuse to give in to the addition again, we can break free from the enslavement of smoking. It isn't easy but it isn't impossible either. Getting going is the hardest part. Take the plunge! Make the new year a smoke free year. Be sure to work the program tools to the left. They will help you develop a plan for the tough times.
