i am also new to this site and very glad i found it. i can use any encouragement that i can get. i am so excited about not smoking anymore and my quit date isnt even here yet. at the same time i am worried. you hang in there and if i can offer any words of encouragement to you, i would say.. if you want it bad enough you will succeed. focus on all the positive things that will come out in the end.

You can and will be able to do this. Hang in there and you can do anything. I know...easier said than done but I am doing it. It is one of hardest thing I have ever done but I am going on day 13. 12 full days of my quit are over. It only gets easier as you go along. This is a great site for support. I am not sure I could have done it without them. Good luck with your quit and post often. Hi Misty!! I just stopped smoking a few days ago. And you know what? The first few days really aren't as bad as you might think. Once you make that decision and follow through on it, from day one it's almost as if some sort of guilt has been lifted from your shoulders. There's a voice in your head that says "See?, you don't have to feel like cr*p anymore, you can start to feel better almost immediately!" I'm using a NRT, and on my first day I noticed that I had more energy - partly from not smoking and partly from caffeine. :p I was a heavy smoker and had developed the smoker's hack, but my coughing has all but stopped and my head isn't congested and when I wake in the morning, my face isn't puffy and old looking anymore! I can take deep breaths without coughing my head off, too! All this from stopping smoking just 6 days ago. Sure, I have cravings and there've been a couple of them that drove me mad, but they passed. I use the tools on the left side of the screen along with talking to folks here, and I continue to check out other websites in an effort to reinforce my conviction to stay stopped. So, come hang out with us and we'll help each other get through this little adventure one day at a time!! Glad to have ya here!! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/23/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 280 Amount Saved: $70 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 16 Mins: 24 Seconds: 21

Hi Misty -- If you think you will feel like crap, you WILL feel like crap. If you feel like you're 'giving something up', you are doomed. It's all in your head! If smoking is making you sick, REJOICE AT YOUR DECISION TO QUIT! You'll be free from addiction, and all of the other ailments that go along with it! Quitting is a GOOD thing, not a bad thing...you have to quit sounding like you're going to a funeral. BE HAPPY WITH YOUR QUIT! Just my two cents...peace. Cigarettes Not Smoked

:)Hi, Misty: I am really glad that you have decided to quit, and that you have found this site; it sure is helping me a lot. I smoked for 50 years, off & on (mostly on), and quit a bunch of times, with limited success, obviously. I Think it's good in a way that you are expecting to feel bad for awhile; better than being taken by surprise! But, it's also true,as 2tone pointed out, that we can pretty much decide how we are going to feel at any given time. I tried this with some success, when the craving got bad: Take a long, deep breath, hold for 3 seconds, then exhale thru your mouth slowly, The cd that comes with the patches says that this mimics the deep inhales we used to take when smoking. Another helpful thing was the idea of distancing myself from the craving, like this: Instead of "wallowing" in the feeling of what I want, I just mentally step aside from that feeling and examine it with curiosity: Hmm, so that's what craving a cigarette feels like... What has helped me the most this time? Maybe the hypnosis, maybe I'm just really sick of failing at quitting, but certainly this site and all the help and info that's available here. Best of luck!
