Keep with the quit, my dear friend...it does get better. You are in a 'down' time, but will perk up once again. Sending good wishes and prayer your way. A good movie and rest sounds like just the thing! Enjoy! Been thinking about you...Man can I identify with you! There are times you feel like you're treading water; times you feel like you are getting closer to shore; times you get caught in a rip-tide; times when it feels like your floating along...and then the tsunami! Hang on...you'll pull thru this...don't give in! Try these in your cart: Frozen grapes, sugar-free gums and candies, beef jerky, pistachio and sunflower seeds, natural almonds, skinny slices of veggies/fruit, dried fruit, diet bottled green teas and water. I also put in other things to satisfy the hand/mouth thing like those individual dental floss sticks, straws or swizzle sticks. Try a stressball, snap a rubber band around your wrist, buy a magnetic dart board for the back of your office door (boss can't see his pic on the bullseye when he comes in!), keep a couple of super balls in the cart to throw around, plenty of word-searches or simple crosswords, and, in case all else fails, duct tape and a taser gun! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 78 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,929 Amount Saved: $624 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 2 Mins: 0 Seconds: 35

Monica, there's a saying that a plan is God's idea of a joke. Meaning, just when we think we've got everything under control, whap! Just to let us know that we need to let God be God. You can get through this. Some days are harder than others, but please know that as time goes by, those days get fewer and fewer. Hang in there and stick close by. Perhaps try something new...a new walking route, a new flavor of tea, some new music. Have faith in yourself and the new strength that you have built up over the past 24 days. There is nothing that you cannot endure! Monica, you are doing exactly what you need to be doing. You are taking care of your husband and your Dad and yourself. And, you are doing it consciously, thinking it through, planning ahead as best you can. How much more can anyone ask of you? I think you might be right about the infusion of nicotine. I know I always found the patch level recommended for me was way too strong. As far as the caffeine, if decaf doesn't work for you, try doing it half and half. Good luck, Monica, and have a great weekend. You know we're here if you need us! Cigarettes Not Smoked

Remember that there was stress when you DID smoke??? You used the nicotine to cope with the stress....and the nicotine in turn brought it's OWN stress to your situation. You are feeling that pressure now...pressure from the junky within--(handle it with a smoke) Try just blotting the idea of smoking out. that isn't an option. It's not "dictated" that you don't smoke...it's that you "choose" to not use this option. Realize that there are going to be triggers to smoke in ALL the situations where you used nicotine to cope....we can't even begin to know and be prepared for all of those....it's been said that it takes a year to hit even all the "seasonal" triggers in your addiction.....and that doesn't include stressers that are unknown and unpredictable...like money or health problems. Try to see that there is really no reason to panic over the "choice" to not light up?? Don't look at it as "can't"....see it as simply choosing to not light up. Once you realize that the junky IS going to come around???....you can begin to learn how to turn him off.....and in doing that you teach him to just give up, cause his ranting is going to get him nowhere. It could be compared to training an unrully toddler....if you give in (at ANY point) it simply reinforces the behavior. Hang tough...you are doing great.....the first part is the worst part!
