And there it was in my lap

Dune, yeah, you're making too much out of it. You're at the point where the nicotine is out of your system. What you're hearing is addict talk. It happens to pretty much all of us. The good news is that it gets easier the longer you've been quit. On my 1 year smoke-free anniversary, I actually suggested to myself that smoking a cigarette would be a great reward for staying quit for a year. Then I just cocked my head, rolled my eyes, and told myself you've GOT to be kidding. Shrugged it off and let it go. Dunedad. You have got to take this quitting stuff one day at a time. Someone once said that quitting is 10% physical and 90% mental. I still believe that. The junkie within will play games with your mind. It happens to all of us when we quit. We are addicts and as addicts we cannot have one puff. You are awesome in my opinion. I don't know that I would have been strong enough to throw them out the window. You quit for today. When today seems like too much you quit for the next five minutes. Adopt N.O.P.E. (not one puff ever) as your motto and hold on to it no matter what. No matter what comes your way, no matter what thoughts go through your mind, no matter what happens to you, do not light that next cigarette. As long as you do that, you have got it made. I was amazed at every single hour I made it through. The junkie will give you a fit from time to time but just remember that you are fighting for your life and you are stronger than the addiction. All these people around here that are winning the battle against smoking are living proof. Nice job! I can't believe how I still have "urges" to light up. D*mn!! I know I will always be smoker, not active at this time, but I thought that after this length of time I wouldn't have any. N.O.P.E. Is still the mantra for moi. Good luck everyone hang in there. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/2/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 573 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 11,469 Amount Saved: $2865 Life Gained: Days: 77 Hrs: 23 Mins: 46 Seconds: 55

Our fascination with the smokes seems to stay with some of us.....I know it is still with me if I LET it take root. But you can train yourself otherwise....and it finally becomes just a niggle in your brain.....but you do NOT keep smokes around under any circumstances....they are for one thing and one thing only...to smoke. good that you trashed them at once. I have let one lay for days before destroying it.....why?? I have no idea....somewhere in me the addict still lurks I guess. Just keep moving forward...it keeps getting better and easier. Dune, Thanks for sharing and know this was a great test! It will take time and it will get better, you were surprised to see that pack, but you did the right thing. Pushing forward and succeeding is the winner here :) Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
