Gaining Way too much!

Thanks for all the support and encouragement from you all. I have a better attitude today with the weight thing. I am convinced that I will keep the quit no matter how big I get, Heck I want to be one of the "fat bottom girls", for a little while anyway. maybe I should get on the Magic Ship where calories and size are no where in site. I know that I must keep my quit first and foremost at this early stage. I just smell spring right around the corner and am dreading the "fat folks clothes" which is what my hubby calls jogging pants and t-shirts. I guess it is better to wear fat people clothes than to have to drag around a oxygen bottle and have to stay in doors all summer long due to not being able to breath. I have made a pact with myself that I will start watching my food intake more closely and start getting in some physical walking a couple times a week. Thanks for letting me vent and then picking me back up and letting me know it is okay. What a great group of folks here at SSC. Well, just re-read my post from 2/7/07 and am completely depressed and sad. Said that I was going to start doing this and doing that, I have been trying really hard to increase water intake and watch sweets. But for some stupid reason I have continued to gain weight, how in the HELL is this happening??? I am so frustrated that I can't even button my jeans on the weekend to go out with hubby. I wear scrubs (uniforms) at work during the week with stretchy elastic waistbands so a few lbs dosen't show, but the jeans not buttoning on the weekend is a problem. To date I have gained around 14 pounds total. My friends at work all say I don't see where it is, but I see it every morning and night as I stand looking in the mirror. When I stepped up on that scale this morning and it weighed me at 150 I burst out in tears. Please tell me this will stop, soon! Oh, Katie, try not to be so hard on yourself. The exact same thing happened to me. Our metabolisms slowed down when we quit...give it time, your body needs to readjust. I didn't address the weight gain until 6 months into my quit. Make sure your quit comes first. You are healthier now, even with a few extra pounds. It will come off eventually, just make good choices and remind yourself of how great you're doing! LeeLee - It sounds like you're already on your way...the walking & drinking more water will definitely make a difference very soon! Also, I would pay more attention to how your clothes fit than what the scale says! It sounds like you're right around the time when your metabolism should be stabilizing. Everything I've read says that it generally takes 3-5 months. Don't give up! P.S. Congratulations on your awesome stats! Hi Katie, I hear ya on gaining too much. I'm told it's part of quitting smoking. I seen a doc 3 weeks ago due to a cold/viral haging on for too long, and she told me "Worry about your quit, once you've overcome that then start with a healthy diet plan". I don't like her words as well. But they do make sense. Protect your great quit at all costs! Take care, Ron My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 333 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 11,668 Amount Saved: $2247.75 Life Gained: Days: 52 Hrs: 5 Mins: 53 Seconds: 47

katie, It will not happen overnight. Start one thing at a time. Try increasing your water intake, once you have mastered this, then try cutting your portions, etc. Again, it may be a good idea to talk to your doctor or nutritionist to help you come up with a plan that is doable for you. There are lots of tips in this thread, so don't overwhelm yourself and use them one at a time :) Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.

katie, Save those sweets and reward yourself with them once a week. Using water is great and lowering your portion size will help also. Prepare low calorie snack and veggies to snack on and have them ready. Prepare your meals and snacks in advance and give yourself choices. Try one week at a time and use those sweets as a goal reacher! You can also work with your doctor to come up with a food and exercise plan that is right for you. It will not happen overnight so give it some time :) Josie ____________________ The SSC Support Team.
