Dentists fears!!!

Yay! I made it through and am still alive! Yay! I took 75mg of Xanax and it kicked in about 15 minutes into the procedure. I had my mom there with me so that helped too. I was a big baby when I got to the office but I relaxed after a bit and was able to get through without a panic attack!!! Yay! I have been putting this appointment off for weeks and now that monkey is off my back. When I first sat in the chair I my heart was racing so I layed back and closed my eyes and did deep breathing (in for 7 secs, out for 7 secs) and the chilled me out enough until the meds kicked in. The time actually went by really quickly. I didn't even need the gas. Thanks for everyone's support. :)

Hi Butterflyv, I was just wondering how you got on at the dentist today. Let us know.

Yeah, I actually had the first part done already and I, of course, freaked out. Then I had an interim period where the tooth hole was packed with antibiotics and resealed. Now he has to go in and finish the job. Last time was incredibly painful because I don't seem to respond that well to the pain killer and it wears off very fast. I just really hated having the dental dam over my face but I will definetely be taking a CD in with some guided imagery and the likes. Thanks for your support. :)

Going to the Dentist is one of my worst phobias! I take Xanax, and have had "laughing gas" several times with no ill effects what-so-ever. Have you had a root-canal before? If not, try to relax, they are no worst than a filling. Generally takes only about 1/2 hour. Also, I take a portable CD player with me and listen to music while having the work done, helps me keep my mind off whats going on. Good Luck!!! :)

Yes, I have taken xanax and laughing gas at the dentist's and didn't have any problems. Best of luck to you! Mary Jane

Hi I am new to this group and need some advice/comfort. I am going to the dentist tomorrow for root canal and am terrified. I had a major panic attack last time I went to the dentist and am afraid of it happening again. My dentist knows of my panic disorder so that makes me feel a little better. Just the thought of having the dental dam on my face is making me sick to my stomach. I will be taking some Xanax before I go and I have asked to have "laughing gas" as well. I have a phobia about taking new meds and stuff so even the thought of taking the gas is scaring me really badly. I always worry about having a bad drug interaction, it is one of my phobias. I am even scared of taking vitamins with medication. Duh, I know. Anyhow, does anyone have any experience of Xanax and laughing gas? I just need to know that my heart will not stop or something because of the combo. I can't wait until Thursday for all of this to be done with!!! Thanks in advance for any help you all can offer. :8o:
