The last good-byes have been said and Nick has been laid to rest. I have never experienced a funeral quite like it. The Church was packed, standing room only, the foyers was packed, there were people standing outside all around thwe church. It was amazing. The Police had to be there to control the traffic. So many people all united in a common grief. It was a fitting tribute to a very special young man. It was very, very emotional as anyone would imagine. Did I smoke ? No ! with your support and with my wife there to lean on, I got through a very tough day. Thank you all so very much. What an awful few days I have had. On Sunday morning the 15 year old son of a very good friend was killed in a car accident. It has hit me very very hard. In this situation when trying to cope with the pressure of stress and grief I would be smoking my butt off. This is oh so hard. I have just come from visiting my friend and am very upset. His son's body was at home and on view. saying good bye to him and comforting a family so striken with grief is just so indescribably hard. Hugging my friend, and crying and just feeling so helpless and empty. Do I want a cigarette, yes very much. I'm not coping. The funeral is tomorrow, it's going to get worse. I am only just keeping it togther now. What do I do ?? this is awful. I am fighting two battles at once. I know that by lighting up I will not improve anything, I guess I am just seeking some sort of familiar comfort. help ! Keith, So glad to hear that you made it without smoking. As you look back and continue in your support of your friend's family I'm certain you will be glad you did it fully present. Smoking masks so many emotions and prevents us from really feeling what we should. Good and bad. This is a huge milestone. Also, all that time you would have spent "smoking your butt off" can be spent with your friend who needs you. Truly it is a good friend that would put off their own needs to be there for another. Keith, Just wanted to see how you were doing. I'm sure you are pretty occupied with things on the homefront but if you do stop in, please let us know how you are. there aren't any words that will make this better....there aren't any "actions" that will make it better either....therefore do NOT smoke. Just be there for your friend and let yourself grieve also. It will pass better without the smokes and you will find yourself one more step closer to freedom. we have to experience all the seasons and situations where we used smoking to hide before we can truly say goodbye to this demon. Let yourself grieve...and remember that you are in the prayers of everyone here. Kiwi, Your needed now for support. You friend needs all the love and support during this difficult time. Smoking will not help and by coming here you knew that. Know that 38 days is an amazing journey and starting over is not an option. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your friend. Take a small coping mechanism with you and hold on tight. You have other things to think about so push that nicodemon to the side. Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
