.... "I told myself a I would return to smoking... when I turned 80. "For today, I will not smoke, but by george, at 80 I'm going to smoke like a blazing freight train".... Briliant idea, MissyFit! :) Cheers, nmc My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 96 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 969 Amount Saved: $480 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 0 Mins: 1 Seconds: 50

Really try hard and stick with it, my dear! You'll be glad you did in the long run. Right now, you're missing the cigs, but before long, you won't be. And you'll feel soooo much better. Its healthier too, it just makes good sense. so hang in there and keep posting. It really helps. Material girl, Think you're too young to get sick from smoking? Read Joe Cool's story. He died at age 21 from lung cancer. I was 28 years old last year when I was diagnosed with COPD, which is not reversable. I couldn't believe it! That's something that OLD people get! Not ME! I had a cough so bad that it lasted all day, every day. Co-workers and bosses were complaining that I coughed too much and kept sending me to the doctor to get prescriptions to clear up my "cold." Nothing worked... except quitting smoking. Luckily my COPD is in the very early stages and can be stopped dead in its tracks. And when I think about people like Joe Cool who die at 21 years of age of lung cancer, I think I'm pretty lucky. Will you be lucky? So you're young and feel like you have "forever" to quit? "Forever" sneaks up pretty quickly and the longer you smoke, the harder it will be to quit later. You must be a very bright girl to be quitting at such a young age. Congratulations on that. Hang in there. You'll be glad you did. Crave the Quit! Well Mistyfit I like you tricked myself and offered myself a way out. I admit I gave myself an out at age 75. It seems to be working. Hey use any tool you can to get there. All is fair when doing battle with nicodemon. He certainly uses every trick in the book to bring us back into his fold. Materialgirl you do have lots of support. Keep up the high spirits!

Hi MG! Like any medication, you need to give the patch time to work. If you smoke 10 smokes, stick w/ step 2. If you smoke 11 or more, head to the higher dosage. Give them a chance MG. During the first 36 - 48 hrs, rely heavily on lollies and when a trigger or crave hits, move away from the situation asap. Perhaps you need a little mood stabilzer to help you during the 1st few weeks. Do not look at it as a weakness either. Seek out your doc and explain to him / her everything that you are afraid of, benefits of not smoking etc. They are there for a reason which is to help you. Not only will they help you, but they will monitor how healthier you will become. It took me 36 hrs for my body to get used to the patch and w/i 2 days, I was jsut fine w/ my patches. I step down to 7 mg tomorrow and then after the 2 weeks, then I am free of them. I am happy as a non smoker. I havent gotten a cold since I quit and even my seasonal allergies werent a bad as they normally are. Every single day I want my cigarettes back, but! So far (THIS time around anyway!!) I have resisted. I keep thinking "I can have a butt on XXX" and then I'm like, "um NO, no you can't!!" I like the idea of OK, I'll return to smoking when I'm 80!! That should get me throught the next 40 years!! LOL! I have done better this time around for sure. The withdrawals weren't AS bad, and I finally made it through being with a smoker on Thanksgiving Day/night and I did not take even a SINGLE drag! I've also removed myself from the situation! I was at my mom's, her husband was smoking, and after him having 2-3, I was caving and instead just went home!
