Monica, Every single day of your life, you have two choices regarding smoking. You can either smoke or you can choose to not smoke. Every single day, you make that decision, whether you are on day one of day 1,000, you STILL make the choice every single day. As you go along in your quit, the decision gets easier, but we are STILL just one away from a pack (or more) a day. No matter how many days we have under our belts, it's still the same outcome - if we smoke one, we are risking going back to a lifetime of smoking. I hope that this relapse is a wake-up call for you. When you said that you were past the "slip" because you hadn't smoked in a few days after it, I got a little worried because I could tell you were getting a little too confident. I did the same thing and had 3 mistakes because each time, I thought "I'm NEVER doing that again!" But just because we say it, doesn't always make it true. We have to live that choice and we may be completely confident and strong in our quits one minute, but then scrounging for cigarettes the next. THis is a very powerful addiction, but YOU, my dear, are stronger. So tell me, what is your plan for next time? I really want to know! What will you do the next time you are thinking about smoking? Will you come to the site and post? Email/IM a quit buddy? Call a friend who supports your quit? Read your reasons for quitting? Read your quit journal (if you have one)? What will you do? Tell me. I want to know. Having a plan in place is (in my opinion, coming from somebody who has screwed up enough times to know) the BEST way to keep yourself from smoking. Make a concrete plan for what you will do and then stick to it. Do NOT smoke without doing these things first. So what's your plan? Monica, as you know, I've been where you are and I'm VERY glad to see that you're getting right back to your quit. This quitting thing isn't easy, but together, we can get it done. Hi Monica You have had a lot of good input, butterfly is right in there and perhaps that is what you do need at this point. After all, all of us want you to be successful and are ready to do whatever it takes to see you in that light,the continued quit. I am stickin to it though, that it should be much, much, much less than 100 hard days and perhaps another 80 milders days to get you free. After that it is just forget about it! Monica, what to say. You know my history. Do what you need to do to quit. I know in the depth of my soul just how you feel. I needed those practice runs to really get me to the point of wanting to quit. This website and the people kept drawing me back. Keep in touch with those who care so much. I bought Allen Carr's book easy was to stop smoking. I tried it last summer, wasn't ready. This time it has worked. Can not even begin to tell you how much that helped. You have been though a lot of emotional things and they do take a tole on the best of us. You have shown your strength and have helped many by your example. So you had a burp alone the way, you are human with an addition. (((HUGS))) What I found when I returned to smoking I couldn't get the people here out of my mind ;) Your smoking is ruined :eg: Everytime you light up you are going to be thinking about quitting and when you are thinking about quitting you are going to smoke. Monica my 2-D friend, Hang in there, and I don't mean just your quit. You have been through alot lately. Grief is a tough thing to learn to cope with, and like the quit, has to be taken just one minute at a time. Being a primary caregiver is no picknick either. My first wife died of metastatic cancer at age 36. I found bereavement support online that helped me emensely. They are easy to locate if you search the internet. One I can recommend is GROWW.org. So good to see you get back up. Rant away, it is allowed. I use to rant all over these boards. Look at all my postings! I whined and cried, yelled and screamed. And these good people stood by me and helped me along. Grieving sucks. You think you are fine and then bam it all hits you again. I have considered smoking a few times since my friends son died. It is so hard to move on but smoking will not make it any easier. You keep taking one step at a time and keep doing what YOU need to do. Deep breaths and lots of water. NO MORE SMOKING! The only way to quit is to not light a cigarette. N.O.P.E. Not One Puff Ever. That is the only way anyone can quit.
