I went to the see the doctor to get my Zyban prescription, and while he decides this is the right method, he promptly informs me that I'm not ready to quit! I can't believe this! He has been my doctor for 35 years and knows me very well. HOWEVER, he tells me I must be in the right frame of mind(true, and I'm working very HARD at putting my plan together-even went to Chapters to get Allen Carr's book). I told him my quit date is Jan.1, and apparently he says you take Zyban 10 days before. He said come see me in January and we'll talk about. Not happening! I'm going back today. I'm not one to get demanding, but I want that prescription today. Any ideas on what to tell him? I know what I would tell him but if I post it I will get barred from the site! I really dont undertsnad why does he say you are not ready? Has he ever smoked? Dont get mad at him that won't help perhaps a bit of begging and the odd tear.... Always works with me when Jen turns on the waterworks! Jan,I certianly understand your frustration. But, remeber Zyban is not the magic pill. It will help, but the desire to quit must be the main focus. You and I have been around for a while now. You know my history. Not sure, but cetianly feel this is my final quit. Why? I don't know, it just feel right. I have tried almost everything out there. What has worked this time is the the book and cold turkey. The withdrawals have been almost nothing. Not saying they were not there, I was aware of what was going on. I am not an expert, but this seem much better. For me the others were just a crutch. For me I thought I needed that other stuff so I could quit. The patches, zyban, smoke away, natural stuff from the health stores, they worked for a while. But I was not ready. I had to pratice :p Go to the doctor again and talk to him. Did you tell him about this site and what you were doing to get prepared? I know you want this quit and you have kept in touch and your plan to quit after the holidays is a good one. You will have that stress behind you. Hope your day goes better, my friend. I think Ros has a great idea in showing you have prepared. I truly cannot believe ANY doctor would tell YOU how you're feeling. Go find someone else who wants to take the time to hear your side of the conversation. There are plenty of M.D.'s out there. Good luck Jan! Jan You sound pretty ready to me honey. When you go back today thank your doctor for his support and outline exactly the steps that you have taken to prepare yourself. Let him know how disappointed you felt in not getting your prescription today. Tell him you KNOW you are ready and that you would be grateful if you could have your prescription today as it is an important part of your plan to quit. C'mon girl - step up to it and ask for what you want - I know you will. If you have to, tell him you aint leaving without it!!! Good luck petal. I've watched you on this site and I know that you have been preparing. You are eager for your quit so go for it girl. Jan Hi there - I just love your resolve kiddo - you'll get what you need. Do take heed re the relaxing too though - that's good advice. I know it's a hectic time of year but stop for at least 30 minutes a day and just go with the flow. We can overschedule ourselves especially at this time of year. I was given a great piece of advice once Jan - 'Under commit and over deliver'. All the best to you. Jan. A few years ago I took Zyban to try to quit. It helped however, it just allowed me what I needed to get between fixes and become a closet smoker. In other words... I continued to smoke while I took Zyban. When I quit this time, I guess I really was ready because I went cold turkey. People use all kinds of methods to quit but when you have truly had enough of smoking and all that goes with it, you will quit regardless of the method. (my opinion) To be honest, someone telling me I "wasn't" ready would make me or determined to prove them wrong! Prove the doctor wrong with or without the Zyban. You will be so proud of yourself and so will he. N.O.P.E. Not One Puff Ever No matter what! That is how you quit. You CAN do it. Have you done the quit program workbook here Jan? (LH side of the page) I believe there is a facility to print it out, perhaps that would convince your doctor you have prepared, planned and are ready. The quit date is normally in the second week of taking Zyban. From my personal experience (and having watched others here) I would suggest you schedule it to the back-end of the second week (I quit on day 13 of taking it) to make sure the full effects have kicked in - provided that is OK with your Dr of course. The psychological effect of painlessly cutting down (without any intent to do so!) on those last few days was very powerful for me. But of course we all vary. That would mean starting today or tomorrow for a quit date of Jan 1st, if I've worked it out right. Good luck today! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/16/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 733 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 23,463 Amount Saved: 4398 Life Gained: Days: 95 Hrs: 21 Mins: 16 Seconds: 10

Jan, You have received a lot of good advice. Take what you need and keep it close. Continue to work with your Doctor to come up with a plan that is right for you :) Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
