Not Doing so Good

Hi Tennielle - Is your desire to quit stronger than your desire to smoke? If that's the truth, this is the time... if it's not, quitting won't last... Stay strong, trust YOU, and dig deep... what is your commitment to you? Thank you Theresita and CobanFan. I think I'm gonna finally settle down and turn in for the night. Oh and just had to share something: I told my husband tonight that I am giving it another go. He asked me "would you be mad if I bought you a pack of smokes then next Friday just in case?" The story behind that is last year I had this "great" idea to quit smoking on the opening day of deer season. I got so mad and cranky that I wasn't getting any good shots that I walked 2 miles home in the snow and went to bed at 3pm. To make things worse I went out at 8pm and drove 40 miles round trip to the nearest town to buy a pack of smokes. So I said "sure buy them, but you won't get me to smoke them" Now I can rebel in a good way :eg: Tennielle My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/3/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Thanks, Deli. I've tried hypnosis in the past. I'm one of those people though that tend to over analyse (sp wrong I'm sure) things and it never stuck for me. I can be hypnotised easily, but I can't have my mind changed through it. I do know lots of people it has worked for and its great that it has worked for you. Yes the patches is where I am at. If I can find a way to second guessing myself...but that comes with time right? Patience. Tennielle

Deli, Oh don't worry. I was in a support group through our local Health Unit about a year ago and was approved to use the patches. Step 2 for 6 weeks and Step 1 for 2 weeks. My main prob is that I would feel like I'm cheating with the patch and quit using it after a week or so. That is what happened to me last quit. After 3 weeks I forgot to put one on. Felt fine so I quit the patches. 5 days later I crumbled and had been smoking for the past 2 weeks. Not up to a pack a day as before, but one is too many right? So back to the patches and this time for the time recommended. (I'm one of those naughty patients that never finishes all of their antibiotics too) :eg: So just gotta stick to it cause the patch is stuck on me :P My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/3/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Thanks Deli. I am having a VERY long day today. I was trying the cold turkey thing because everything says that is the quickest way. I got out my patches. A brand new box I was planning on returning. I realized all my other attempts...the ones that lasted the longest were on the patch so this is my best option as far as I know. I've had enough trial runs to know what works for me, so let's hope I'm right. Today is the day. And as one of you put it I already regret quitting. Insecurity to the max. I'm gonna go through this though. Gotta kill all the little fiends my addicted mind will pull out to keep me trapped. Insecurity, Fear, Lonliness, Anger, Anxiety....they are just trying to trick me into to staying trapped. I've always been strong enough to do this. I am whole and happy without cigarettes. All I gotta do is trust and believe. To a New and Smoke Free life. Well I'm not doing so well. I just can't get off the diving board. I climb that big ladder, close my eyes, hold my breath, flex my knees and...I FREEZE! I gun shy here. I don't know what to do. I'm thinking right now I should make no plans for tormorrow except quitting and sticking close here. If I can just get past that 24 hour mark I can get some momentum. Perhaps I just don't want to deep down. I must say truthfully I feel I want to quit, but it seems when push comes to shove I hide. It's just so frusturating. Sorry, but I think I'm wasting more than my own time posting here. Thanks for all your kind words earlier, but I think I'm just chicken. Tennielle

Tennielle As Lady says do 5 minutes at a time. Focus on today and what you can do today. And you can do this, believe in yourself. You are not c/s or anything close to it. You are a brave soul who's trying something difficult. Difficult it might be but the rewards blast that out of the water. Please try. Come here as much as you can and you will get support. That's the spirit Tennielle.... One step at a time! Take the first step and then another. Congratulations on your decision to quit!
