Gearing up for my quit

17 years ago 0 6 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Thanks, Auntdeb, and everyone else here. This is 007 feeling like I am, uh, "bond"ing with you already bwahahaha... I am putting off having a smoke. My last one was around one pm, so just under two hours ago. I want to feel this little monster and start introducing him to WHO IS IN CHARGE!!! Give the little bugger a taste of what's to come. Regarding the other part of your comment, my husband quit drinking and things got better - quit smoking is next for him too. You are right, apparently it is all "up" from there. Patricia.

Hello, and thank you already for being here! I have been lurking for a while, joining a little more than a week ago. This is the first post. I have prepared (a little bit) by having my first smoke of the day later in the day. Reading Allen Carr's Easy to quit smoking and it is really interesting. I am finding it hard to not smoke while driving or after a meal. But, I am NOT afraid of my quit. I quit drinking for a lot of the same reasons in December of last year. Additionally, my Dr. tells me that I have about ten years until Cardiovascular Disease if I don't fix things inside, so that means no more pizza, cheese, chips or smokes. I'm only thirty seven for heaven's sake! My kids still need me!! My quit date is march 1, 2007. Thank you, SSC! I'm gonna need you...

Hi auntdeb. Thanks for the reply! the name is for the quit date, but I like 007 too. I have read around and have gotten to step four. Now comes the time for the smoker's diary. I am 37, female and Canadian. Woo Hoo! Two kids, one cat, one husband. As I spend the next day or two working on my diary I will check out the community, and read some journals if that is OK. Thank you again,

Right! So what's left? Sex! There we go... To help with the alcohol overuse I am on a forum called WQD Netwarriors. It is very helpful. It has taught me that the common denominator in situations like this is simply the desire to quit. And the powerful strength of numbers and support. We can all fill our boots with our personal "how to do it", so just because wine and chocolate (for example) are maybe not for me, they can work just great for others. It is still inspirational to me. I would like to do this with no NRT. Any thoughts? Thanks.

no, mmdd, but I turned it around for the sense of it. It seems illogical to have mmddyyyy IMHO. Not that I am spock or anything...not even close. Just a left handed scorpio who has a newfound desire to LIVE!!! I am tired of sabotaging my life with alcohol and smokes. My children deserve better than that. They deserve me kicking around and nagging them for many years to come... :confuse: Having said that, I have read many posts from people who get help from wine and chocolate. I sincerely hope that I am not doing all this stuff too close to each other. Don't want to be the "master of none...". I want to be smoke free, but I don't want to jeaprodize what I have accomplished so far. Anyway, Canada rocks! 14th generation and proud of it. I love you guys already. Patricia.

:) Patricia..007 Gearing up to quit Cold-Turkey I did quit once CT for 10 yr. The most difficult thing..I ever did in my life, but also one of the most rewarding. Tips: Use the tools on the left for coping strategies. You might want to read Allen Carr's book that many talk about here. I used straws to chew on to take the place of cigarettes, and of course sugar free gum. (good one for sitting at the PC AND being on the phone and Driving) I drank tons of water. Most importantly is deep, deep breaths..........(these will get you through a lot of moments) If you can make it smoke free through the first 3 days...you will have a good start in quitting. Remember that almost everyone has slipped and probably the worst thing about that is having to start over with the withdrawal...that is what kept me from slipping this time. Just read, read, read...post your questions for feelings etc...we are all here reading too and listening. auntdeb :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 56 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,829 Amount Saved: $266 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 18 Mins: 49 Seconds: 50

There has been a lot of really interesting talk about cross-addictions (if there is such a thing...) --- it seems to me that if you're already off alcohol, you certainly don't want to use that to ease your quit!! (Indeed, most people who drink stay away from alcohol for the first several weeks ---) Chocolate I don't know about -- I'll have to look into it, as I am severely curtailing my own drinking now, and I firmly believe that a life without vices is hardly worth living! Can't get too excited about chocolate --- wonder what else is out there?? (God, I'm the only person I know who goes out looking for new vices during Lent!!) peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 119 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,975 Amount Saved: $654.5 Life Gained: Days: 21 Hrs: 19 Mins: 47 Seconds: 19
