It's Official! I can never be around cig smoke again

17 years ago 0 519 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I went to the doctor not because I'm feeling bad. I'm feeling okay. I passed by a group of smokers yesterday afternoon and started coughing so badly that I almost coughed out my last breath and passed out. I saw spots. So I went to the doc. I am allergic to the new formulation of cigarettes. When the manufacturers upped the nicotine content, they added additional bronchodialators to expand the brochial tubes to allow the nic to enter the blood stream faster. That's what got me. I reacted to the brochodialor right away, the tobacco didn't bother me at all. It causes my trachia to close instead of expanding the brochial tubes and I cough to try to get air through the collapsing trachia. It's like being strangled slowly. I'm not going to take any additional meds to stop smoking. I'll do it with gum and knowledge that I just can't do this anymore. If you or someone you know has developed a sudden and severe cough and inability to breathe this is probably the reason. Check it out to make sure. I find it odd that manufacturers would combat widespread stop smoking campaigns by trying to make the addiction harder to break and end up with adding a substance to make sure people quit smoking. I just got this e-mail from an on-line friend who works in the industry. Cigarettes today are made with reconstituted tobacco. Absolutely no tobacco is wasted. They take all of the scraps and put it in a giant holding tank and turn it into this sludge/pulp crap where they add sugar and other substances to take out the harshness. Certain additives act as bronchodialators which enable you to SUCK in more smoke. This sludge/paper pulp dries and they mix it with tobacco. Then you light it and suck the smoke into your lungs. How's that for an incentive to quit?????? Ouch !
When the manufacturers upped the nicotine content, they added additional bronchodialators to expand the brochial tubes to allow the nic to enter the blood stream faster
Just shows.. anti smoking groups have caused this ! The powers that be need to re-think the approach, cos there anti-smoking laws obviously aint working !. This would explain why i see so many young teenagers smoking these days, increased nicotine levels in tobacco will also cause stronger addictions, if that is at all possible ! making it almost impossible to quit ! seems like governments & anti-smoking lobiests are fighting a no-end battle here ! & the poor smoker is caught in the middle of it ! Glad i aint a smoker !!!!!!!! :8o: quit while you still can. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Interesting post tryagain. You know I say that I wanted to quit. I didn't have to. The thing I find interesting about your post was a realization it brought to my attention. You see, one of the reasons I wanted to quit is because I was tired of hiding my smoking from everyone. I was tired of missing out on life because of my smoking. That was just one of many reasons I wanted this quit. When life gets me down, a lot of times, I want to go bach to the hiding. I want to block out everything I know and feel now and go back to the days I didn't know any better. I didn't know I was a slave to cigarettes until I quit. Now I know that smoking really wasn't enjoyable at all. That was what I told myself to convence me that it was ok. It's really strange how an addict justifies their addiction. I learned a long time ago that we can justify anything if we want to. tryagain, For as educated as you say you are (doctorate) you have a lot to learn about life. Book smarts and common sense are mutually exclusive terms and you are the poster child for that message. You are an addict in the worst sense of the word. The handwriting is on the wall and you refuse to read it. I mean REFUSE to read it. I am amazed at how you have justifed smoking. Your husband is a "dead man walking" and you can't see it. I read your first post here and I just shook my head in amazement. You can't breathe and your husband can't breathe and you're still taking about various techniques that the tobacco companies use to keep smokers hooked like it's front page news! Maybe it is a revelation for you! Now you "have" to quit! Wow! That's a shock! Here are smokers with one foot in the grave and they realize now that they "have" to quit! This is the essence of the addiction!! So many people smoke, blinded by their addiction, that they don't realize that a cigarettes may purpose is TO KILL THE SMOKER!! Now that you have this wonderous informaton, quit and NEVER LOOK BACK!! Pardon the sarcasm. I know I was a bit rough, but your post just stuck a nerve. I wish you and your husband all the best and hope that some of your health returns. Be Strong. Pam....you see "exactly" where I am coming from on being pushed, forced, cornered, etc. into a quit. It usually doesn't hold like having a true "desire" to get away from tobacco. you are getting to be one smart cookie and that's what it takes to beat this thing ;) Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1851 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 74,077 Amount Saved: $10550.7 Life Gained: Days: 244 Hrs: 5 Mins: 40 Seconds: 49

tryagin....I worry that you seem to be looking for a reason to "have" to quit smoking. In order to beat this thing you have to "want" to quit smoking. It really doesn't matter what they add or don't add to tobacco....it's HIGHLY addictive and always has been. and we, as intelligent human'beans' have always know that it was bad for us....or at least "I" always knew that. I blame no one for my addiction but ME. I didn't have to be tricked or lied to....I was just stupid and thought that being "cool" was more important than any ill effects that smoking could cause.....and then I found myself addicted and just didn't really WANT to stop....I was too in love with smoking and what I "thought" it represented in my life. It didn't matter than I coughed, would wake up hung over from smoking....no sir...get out of that bed and light up!....stupid stupid me. well now I feel smart....and so proud....I conquered the damned demon. you can too....but you gotta "want" it Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1851 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 74,072 Amount Saved: $10550.7 Life Gained: Days: 244 Hrs: 5 Mins: 16 Seconds: 9
