as per request--- depression/loss of taste

Seem to me, the depression issue is no small one. Personally, I never had to deal with depression/bipolar or any other psych issue until I kicked the habit if you will. The times that I was depressed it was mainly due to a loss from the sabres. But that quickly subsided. Depression is a bi**h. I, myself can see where it can lead to problems. Like any other problem that comes from quiting, I will deal with it as it comes up. So far, I have been pretty good with it. I have killed no one, didnt even lose a friend, but even if I do lose a friend over this, then they really werent much of a friend if they dont understand. Depression takes from me. But I look at it as just another chalange. Perhaps I will learn to control it through my quit, perhaps not, but for now, I think I am doing ok. If it gets real bad, hey, what the hell, I have several docs that can always give me some prozac! Its the dam taste buds that I cant handel! lol. My Sam Adams cherry wheat taste like a sock! And my Molsons taste like a Genny cream ale! lol. Oh well, its not 4ever I hope! lol. Hello Casey, Your advice is great. One problem, I work with the psychoquack I call my doctor!lol, Actually, hes cool. But there are days when it is not there or very little. I did talk to a doc this afternoon, good friend of mine. He just told me to ride the tide! You got yourself into this mess, now get yourself out. Here, take these and let me know if you need more! lol. That is just a dam shame about Sam Adams tasting like a sock! Good thing you didnt know about this side effect 10 days ago. Ok Mr Jaset withdrawals are going to be a b**ch. You are going to get cranky, have headaches, suffer through bouts of deppresion...and oh by the way...your favorite beer is going to taste like a sock. I am sure just like the depression it is temporary. I guess that is why wellbutrin/zyban is popular for quitters, in addition to supposedly tuning down crave receptors, it is an anti-depressant (it's original purpose). Jim, you are doing an awesome job..you are almost done with heck week! Hey Jaset - Depression is part of the ride...No need to be too concerned unless it doesn't go away - at which point you need to talk to your psychoquack doc friend who would most certainly tell you what steps you need to take. In the meantime, I've been told that healthy eating is important (I just haven't tried that one yet) I find that exercise is the key to maintaining any level of sanity during this quit (equally effective in dealing with anxiety and depression) If that doesn't work - just post some new threads to get the creative juices flowing. Example - Since quitting smoking, I have found that I cannot resist the urge to pick the lint out from between my toes. Does anyone else feel this way? Wait for ten responses....um....and if that doesn't work, go out and buy some really CHEAP beer and think how lucky you are that you can't taste it. Perhaps you should make an appt w/ your PCM. He or she will be able to help you out during this quit. Plus they will follow you as you go too. Tell them about your taste buds being all messed up. Perhaps they were all messed up while you were smoking and now since you quit, they are letting you know. Remember, you will not be on the meds for long--just enough time to help you cope until you have beatened the nicodemon to pulp. BTW, when you mentioned 'Genny', you made me smile. I am from S.W. Pa (where Iron City is popular) and mid-upper Pa (near NY border)where it (Genny)was known as 'Nector of the Gods'. LOL!!! Chin up Jim...there is life everywhere when the 'fog' finally does lift ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/21/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 68 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 683 Amount Saved: $136 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 0 Mins: 36 Seconds: 13
