And if you would ignite your smoking habit in association with his 6 year mark - what a punch that would be. ooouch! I guess you don't like feeling "neked", vulnerable and out of control. Because you have probably always presented as the person in control and taking care of others. We'll all get through this and maybe tomorrow there is something to be gained about this humanity thing. This crave will blow over if you allow time to do its job. All you have to do is not put a cigarette to you lips (I wouldn't advise putting it elsewhere either). Don't make me quote you, because you know I can. Sorry, I'm not ready to leave this thread quite yet. Just cause you had your drags, doesn't mean that we are able to back down so easily. First off. You're human. As you know I also just had a major slip. I think it helps to make it public, and I'm experiencing the negative experiences that go along with that - as well as the renewed commitment that results. I believe it's customary for the person making the quote to make the selection. I hope that you didn't mean for me to quote this one: "I'm sorry I let you down. I'm sorry I let myself down. Now, let's go kick some ash and get out of this *@#$%^%^&*&*()&^% thread. " I kinda like this one for this occasion: "If everyday you had to constantly look around for a rattlesnake that would pounce on you from anywhere at all 20-30 or more times per day and you had to dodge it and leap over it, and make plans for avoiding it, and you did that for many years, and one day the rattlesnake did not show up, and never showed up again, you would still miss the thing. You would be looking around you constantly for many days, weeks, maybe even years, for that snake. Even though that snake was really bad for you, you would still "miss" it. You would still look around for it, and wonder what happened to it. You would still think of it, think of the days you spent with it. Think of addiction as the rattlesnake. You don't want it in your life and you are certainly better off without it. Yes, you were used to it, but it's such a relief that it's gone." [this is from 10/17/06 @your 30 day mark] Let's you and I and others facing temptations such as ourselves, stop looking for that rattlesnake. "Now, let's go kick some ash". Cigarettes Not Smoked

I took the dog for a long walk after breakfast and I'll take the puppy for a short walk (more like a drag, she hates the leash) and then go to work. Yes, some other staff can hand out the smokes, but I store them in the med room with the only key... And of course that has been the case for the last 76 days and 12 hours, as well. I think the fact that I'm off all the patches and am nekid for the first time in 40 years is the trouble, coupled with the smokey meeting last night. It feels like the first day all over again. I am holding on. I am using all my coping skills, chewing gum like crazy (and the raw inside of my lip and sore jaw is proof!) and distracting myself. I know there is no try only do. I am still here but shakey and tearful, and very unsure of myself. Thank you all, I will write later possibly from work if I can get on, otherwise when I get home from work around midnight. I remember when I smoked all I wanted was to quit. It's the only thing that is holding me up. Denise ps My husband celebrated 6 years sober last night. He would hate it if I quit quitting, just as I would hate it if he drank. I will hold onto that, too. I wish it were different and that I had held on but I didn't and that's that and now I'm resetting. I pray that I have learned whatever it was I needed to in order to make this damn addiction go to hell. Ima, Here is where you quote me. :8o: I'm sorry I let you down. I'm sorry I let myself down. Now, let's go kick some ash and get out of this *@#$%^%^&*&*()&^% thread. OK, if any one can learn from my mistake, I will answer your questions. If I can't be a good example I will have to settle for being a horrible warning! LOL 1. I had 10 smokes a. the first one made me dizzy and I should have stopped there but the junkie in me said, whooooohoooo let's party on. b. the next 9 smokes I looked at me smoking from someone elses eyes and thought every time I lit one "this is the stupidest thing I've ever done" c. I smoked in front of people I work with who all know I've quit and not one said anything or was shocked or cared one way or the other except one guy who said, "that's kinda sad, except for the thrill for someone falling down, like slipping on a banana peel." d. It would only take 2 days before I was back to a pack or more a day. And I was already starting to wheeze again. 2. The first one burned like hell and made me dizzy to boot. Did I stop there? NO. Could I have? Yes, except I think there was a lesson I needed to learn and unless I kept going and got fully disgusted with myself I don't know that I would have learned anything and may have repeated history again. 3. The weirdest thing is that it was all like slow motion. And today is worse in a lot of ways than hell week because I know too well what to expect and easier in some ways because I was doing it for 76 days and know what to expect. So it's 2 fold. 4. Nothing really triggered this. I just made some stupid choices. I know that it was a choice. I know that that time will come again. It scares the hell out of me. 5. I can't thank all of you enough for all the help and encouragement that you've given me. I have to quote Monica who emailed me with: you're human! LOL! And thank god for that! Love to all of you, ParrotLady/my quit meter is weird/Denise My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/31/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 335 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 10,069 Amount Saved: $1675 Life Gained: Days: 40 Hrs: 12 Mins: 37 Seconds: 58
