Hi Catlover I have been on Chantix for approx. two weeks. I have not had any side affects at all. I had cut down my cigs while on Chantix for the first week like they suggested. Then when I started the second week I quit altogether. Without the Chantix I know I could not do this, I have tried several times in the past on different methods. So I know it is working. I still have some cravings, but much easier to handle. I do think part of this quitting deals with where you put you head before you start. If you truly believe you can quit, then you can. I never thought I would actually succeed. I had tried so many times before, even I didn't believe it anymore. So I believe Chantix does help. This support group is my other salvation, along with hard candy. So keep trying, you can do this. We here on the forum can help. Post as often as you want and need. Let us know if we can help in any other way. Hello Thanks for the encouragement. I had to do something today that i wasn't sure I could handle. I had to go outside during break time at work to talk to someone. Unfortunately this person is a smoker, so I kept a pretty good distance and said what I needed to say and then left. I thought it would bother me more than it did. I think I handled it pretty well. I told a couple of my friends that they need to call me this weekend to keep me on the straight and narrow. First smoke free weekend, I don't want to get too crabby and make my family miserable. So I trying to make plans to do things all weekend to keep busy. Hopefully that will help. I have some great friends who want to see me quit, so the encouragement will be there. I am also greatful for this site and all the new friends I have made here. Thanks to you all

Hi Patricia, I am so glad I found this forum, I can't stay off of it. There is so much help and encouragment here. For the first time in years, and I do mean years, I feel I can make this quit work. Really glad I found Chantix too. I wish you the best of luck on your quit. Keep me posted. We'll count the days together. Wish I had your strength to go cold turkey! I just could not. The Chantix cost me $125.00 for the first month, but I felt I was already spending $180.00 a month on smokes, so I could afford $125.00. Wish my insurance would have covered it, I put an appeal in, but hey I got started so thats all that counts. :)

Hi Carlos, Thanks for the post. I am using Chantix, its that new pill they have out that is susposed to target the nicotine receptors in the brain and block the nicotine from getting there. Hence smoking does nothing for you, so you quit easier. I know it is working because I was smoking 20-25 cigs a day and now I am down to like 10 or less. When i quit on Thursday I think it will be easier now then before. Also Chantix has made me very sensative to the smell of smoke, (don't like it). I would recommend this Program to anyway who feels they don't have the will power. Its expensive if your Insurance doesn't cover it (prescription only), but I figured whats $125.00 a month when I was spending $180.00 a month on smokes! I have tried the patch and the gum and all those other things, cold turnkey, never worked. I have tried this so many times that my friends and family don't believe I will make it this time either. But I think I have the determination this time.!

Hello, My name is Karen and I am new to the forum. My quit date is March 1, 2007. I have been slowly trying different things to slow down my smoking. Delaying the first cig in the morning, not going out for breaks, that sort of thing. I am also on Chantix. Seems to be doing some good. Instead of smoking a pack a day I am down to 1/2 pack or less. Thats really good for me since I tend to psych myself out when I say I am going to quit and I usually fail. Really really want to quit this time. This forum has been a great help so far, I can't stop reading it which is good. Anyway I want to say good luck to all our fellow quitters and I will keep posting my progress. Thanks for being here. :)

Hi everyone. I started chantix 5 days ago, and had a few questions. Did anyone have any side effects, and if so how long till they went away? I havent noticed any change in my smoking habits, was wondering if that started after you go to the higher dosage? I have to admit, I enjoy smoking, most of the time, but for health reasons, I HAVE to quit. I know I cant do it on my own, so I am really hoping chantix helps. I know being in this support group has already helped a lot. Hi changing, and everyone. No I havent seen a change in my smoking as of yet. I had just started noticing a change when I was on zyban, then had to quit taking it. I am hoping chantix will do the same. I take a few other medications, so the side effects I am getting, may be because of the combinations, and will go away when the body gets used to it. If I dont notice a difference by my quit date(the 10th.) then Ill look for something else. A lot of what you said is true. Hardly anybody I know smokes anymore. Its tough to find a place to smoke. I miss a lot of my husbands business dinners for that reason. Hate going outside and freezing! As far as the smell goes, after 47 years of smoking I dont notice it. My husband quit about 15 years ago, so he sure does, he hates it. Well I really appreciate the input, and CONGRATS on your quit. catlover
