Faced with death and a Choice!

18 years ago 0 1 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Cancer was successfully surgically removed from my body Oct.16th. Am cancer FREE Today. Prognosis is high for reccurance of the same. I need to live and want to beat the statistical odds. Since faced with possible reality of death sentence to cancer, I can no longer remain in this abusive relationship with my Tobacco Delivery Device(Cigarette=TDD). I Thought my TDD was my long term friend, comrade (been together 30 years now.Never been separated for a full day until nov.1 2006.I Knew it wasn't a healthy relationship but in the beginning 30 years ago a cardiologist suggested to me I might be better off spending time with my TDD as the off gasing from others TDDS bothered me so much. I was raised to respect Doctors and have trust in them so I went on the first date. Wasn't that great, remenber even feeling nauseous in company of my soon to be long term partner.I Guess I was overtaken by the lightheadnessand before I knew it sweeped onto a new course in my life. Now I feel betrayed, that I was just an object used to provide feed for a industry that pretended to comfort me while abusing me physically at the same time. I recognize the Doctor that gave me that first TDD to have been in the grips of his own addiction. I today know this relationship has to end and I will go through the grieving process. I have been going out, without my TDD for some time now. I no longer dine with my TDD or share my bed with it. I still miss it when I think about the highs we shared but the lows now outweigh the highs now that the mask has been removed. I just wish I Had known about the mask TDD was wearing when we met 30 years ago. I pray each day when I happen to run across TDD in my life that I will have the strength to not return into a relationship that almost killed me. "that which does not kill us makes us stronger" My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/31/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 41 Amount Saved: $22.8 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 5 Mins: 45 Seconds: 7

Need to, Welcome! I'm so sorry you had to meet us this way, but never ever think that you are alone. We are all here to support each other and there is more information than you can possibly imagine here. I have smoked for 40 years, and am now coming up to 18 days smoke free. And my quit date is your surgery date, so of course this was meant to be! Stay close here, take very good care of yourself so that you heal from the surgery (did you know that nicotine slows and even stops healing of tissue?) and do please post a lot. Give others a "well done" or holler out for help, we're here. Just keep puttin one day in front of another... Denise My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 17 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 514 Amount Saved: $127.5 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 0 Mins: 1 Seconds: 31
