I'm on the patch only during the day. As other's will say it affects your sleep and weird/strange dreams at night time. I'm on Step 2 of the patches... I didn't want to start on the 21 mg, wanted to start at 14 mg (may suffer a little more but didn't want all that nic in my system during the day).. Psychologically I thought less nic is the way to go and when I hit day 42 (6 week mark) - or maybe sooner, I'll do the 7 mg for a few weeks.
I too feel that I want to be completely drug free (the nicotine), but I am just moving at one day a time and can't look way into the future.

I'm riding with the QM..cold turkey. Did the CTQ once before when I was 32..lasted 2 years. Tried 4 times after 50 with zyban, gum, patches...CTQ again. As John Lennon said..whatever gets you through the night..s'alright, s'alright.

52 years of smokeing and have tried it all.
Chantix has helped me the most. You stop nicotine
all at once when you stop smoking.
Just like cold turkey.
Had a lot of people praying for me also.

This is my most successful quit EVER and I've been using the NRT gum. Past quits I've tried the patches, they irritated my skin, sleep issues, very, very weird dreams, and I still craved badly while wearing one. Also tried the Zyban, which made my head feel like it was a ballon only attached to my neck by a string. I know other people have used these and are very successful, but I just wasn't one of them.
So far so good on the gum. I'm suppose to step down to the 2mg in just a few days, and I'm a little uneasy about doing so. I'll see how it works and how I feel. I'm looking forward to the day when I don't think about smoking.

Hi Broom
Congrats on 123 days!
I'm afraid I'm a little confused...I have used the patch...but will be finished in two weeks....so don't plan on using any aids before I hit 100 days.
Perhaps you may want to clarify your question (i.e. Do you want to know what helped people to successfully keep their quits after 100 days?) I'd say that you must have lots of good skills already to make it as far as you've come...but I'm sure there are others in the room that would be more than happy to help you if you need afew more.

Oops...I forgot....I also read a book which game me alot of insight into why we attach so much significance to our smokes (stress/depression/anxiety/confidence/celebrating, etc.) and why they do not do anything for any of the above. For me, a big part of learning to quit is learning to readjust my thinking....

Hi,
This is my fifth quit. In the previous 4 quits, I used the following methods:
- cold turkey (twice)
- NRT gums
- Zyban
The longest period I could abstain from smoking was 6 months.
This time, I use an NRT inhaler (1 cartridge per day), together with small pieces of NRT lozenge when the cravings become too strong to bear. So far so good! I will keep using these NRT aids as long as necessary to overcome this 35-years smoking habit!
Cheers,
nmc

Brooms
Everyones quit is different apart from one aspect.
Those who really want to quit will get there they may have to try and try again but they will do it.The real quitters dont quit again they just have a slip sometimes because we are all human!
I often read about miracle cures,Chantrix,Hypnosis etc etc and its interesting to see newbies trying to latch onto them.If the cap fits wear it .Let your friends try what they will but they must WANT to quit.
If they WANT to they WILL!!
Rant over

I'm confused... you quit smoking 4 months ago and want a quit smoking aid? Is this for somebody else? Help me out a bit. Why would you need an aid now?
Crave the Quit!
