Mary, I can only echo what the others have said. Ok so you had a setback. It is not the end of the world, and what you need to do now is to get right back on the quitting horse and this time you will stay on! hugs lynnexx My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/24/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 14 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 211 Amount Saved: 56 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 13 Mins: 56 Seconds: 19

Mary, don't give up. You had 73 days. Talk to your doctor quick and maybe there is something else that can help your mood until you get a little further down the road. The first time I quit for a long period of time was by far the hardest and it wasn't until about 3 months that I started to feel somewhat normal again and then it was probably 6 months before I rarely thought about smoking. I know it's different for everyone but every time I quit again (which I know sounds pretty bad but it's true) it gets a little easier because - and this is critical - I KNOW IT WILL GET BETTER. The knowledge that it will get better allows me not to dwell on something I'm "missing". What was your thought process like as you were quitting and the craves hit? Were you able to tell the craving thoughts to shut up or did they make you think you would like to smoke? Dear Mary, I am very sorry you are dealing with all these emotions now. I have been where you are. My husband died and I also blew a long quit; but Quit Meister is right in that each time, you learn something about the process or about yourself; but please don't wait like I did for years when I could have jumped right back on the wagon and been quit for 4 years now. I beg you, rethink the starting over, don't let the addiction win. We are here to help you and you are wonderful. The pleasure you seek from smoking right now is a chimera, a mirage. It does not exist. I know that feeling, so guilty, trying to acheive that sense of "normal" again. But, it's not 'normal' ...it tastes foul. It makes you dizzy, and sick to your stomach..you think..Is this what I thought I was missing? Please just throw them away. Start over. You can do it. There is no easy way. You are such a brave person already. Grief is hard. But, you are stronger. Throw them away. Dear Mary, I am sorry that things are so hard right now. Please be gentle with yourself right now. The disappoinment you feel is understandable. You are dealing with many things right now. The loss of your husband and the grief you feel are perhaps so great right now that you might need to focus on that. Have you seen a doctor about your depression? I hope you will concider it. I am not a doctor, nor an expert, but I have been somewhere near where you are right now. Three years ago I lost my husband. Please feel free to contact me anytime should you want to talk, I have the messenger thing. As for the smoking, when you are ready to hop back on the wagon we will all be here to help you stay on. Sending hugs your way..... Mary, try a small piece of NRT lozenge. It might help to overcome the urge of smoking. In my case, during this quit, I use the NRT inhaler. In addition, when the urge and craving become too strong to handle, I use a small piece of NRT lozenge (I cut the lozenge into 4 small pieces and use them when I am really desperate ....). Cheers, nmc My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 73 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 738 Amount Saved: $365 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 17 Mins: 19 Seconds: 31

Wow Mary, probably more support in this thread than you ever bargained for! Have yourself a good think. I think you'll find yourself coming back because you'll miss this. I know you're going through a tough time right now just trying to feel "normal". Take this a step at a time and go see your doctor. Talk about the depression. It's a step in the right direction, and it just might make quitting a little easier than you think. Hang in there! Maggie, I understand. It happens. Dont get down on yourself. Put them back down and just start again. It will easier the sooner you do it. Just remember what you put yourself through that hell week. Come back soon and take care of your self.
