Regular posting and quitting

I try to post occasionally. I've found myself reading more than posting. Reading the posts everyday gives me hope. I would never have made it through my first week or my second week and probably not the weeks to come if it wasn't for this site. I imagine that quitting is different for everyone, but I REALLY needed (need) the support and advice from someone who has been where I am. I think it would be very hard for someone who has not smoked to imagine how difficult it is for someone to conquer this addiction. This site has replaced my "after dinner" smoke...and it has helped me through some truly awful days. Studies have grown that having a support group or network does make it more likely for a person to succeed and I don't think that the support gets much better than SCC! Mr Ed asked: - Does anybody here have a view to whether regular posting reinforces a quit? My answer: - YES! Definitely! :) Cheers, nmc (5 weeks of no-smoking, and still going ... :) ) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 34 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 349 Amount Saved: $170 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 11 Mins: 39 Seconds: 42

this site has definately helped me stay quit so far, i may not always post often but just reading what others are going through and commiserating helps me My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 47 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,339 Amount Saved: $184.24 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 16 Mins: 32 Seconds: 47

Most definitely! 2 of my 3 "slips" occured in times when I was away from the site for any extended period of time and my last extremely close almost slip occured when I left the site, supposedly for good and that was why I came back. Yes, posting definitely reinforces the quit! Plus, helping others is a great way to help yourself! Crave the Quit! Personally, I think it depends on the individual, as does most situations. My first attempt at quitting last Dec. didnt go well beyond 2 business weeks because I wasn't really ready and was unfocused...but I was here on the site incessantly. This second time around in August I quit and I'm now 36 days in. Those days have been a total breeze because I was in control of my addiction and I stayed on my ps and qs...and I've not been up here more than a enough times to write a post and to reply to a few others. I recommend anyone who's staggering or having a 'time' with their quit, to definitely post and seek advice...it is healthy and suggested, however as I've stated in a previous post: 'it's mostly psychological'. (opinion>>) If you already quit b4 and came back, you already have a heads up on whats going to happen and you're better prepared or on the 1st try, you are very determined and know what you want....henceforth you become stronger quicker and less dependable on secondary factors. :) Whatever works for you is how you should look at it. Posting and reading made difference for me. To know that there was a light at the end of the tunnel and that there was a group of people who knew what I was going through really helped me! ~Valic My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/12/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 82 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 412 Amount Saved: $434.6 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 18 Mins: 13 Seconds: 36

At the beginning of my quit, when I came onto the site and posted feeling so vulnerable, thinking it would never end, someone would write: it does get better, well it gave me so much courage, I felt if this wasn't true they would all be smoking.... so this site has helped me a lot. I felt supported and never judged I could let it all out and felt so relieved. Now I want to give to the next, this is my reason for posting, I also think the controversy helps to sort it all out, it's important to analyse all of the beliefs and ideas from different people coming from different worlds, this is a great site. I fully appreciate it. :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 107 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,616 Amount Saved: $428 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 5 Mins: 7 Seconds: 8

I have no idea. Right now I am inbetween working and school so I have more time to post. I like helping people. When I can't use the computer I do not have a problem staying quit. In fact I probably think about the issue of smoking less when I am not on these sites. If I look around my fellow quitters (Knights from February), I believe that those who have posted often are still with us. Although we cannot generalise, does anybody here have a view to whether regular posting reinforces a quit (or not)?
