changing medication

Hi Lisa, I wanted to let you know that I too am very sensitive to all the meds for anxiety/panic and have recently made the desision to go without anymore meds. I am still on the Xanax (3 doses a day) but will start tapering ASAP to get off of it, as it is a benzo and benzos are addictive and harmful if taken too long or as a daily medication ( not just for emergencies). I really cant help with the meds you mentioned, just wanted to let you know I am out here and in the same boat... every SSRI I tried (about 4 or 5) INCREASED my anxiety to points where I was really scared about everything, and having way MORE attacks than before I took them, so that family of drugs was ruled out awhile ago for me. I then tried IMIPRAM which apparently hits not the seretonin but something else in the brain, and that I felt horrible on too, and said screw this after one dose. There are quite a few people in this group that cant do the meds so know that you are not alone and please listen to how you feel- meds dont work for everyone. Talk also with your doc and let him/her know how you are feeling and if this will pass or not. Hope you are feeling better soon and let me know! Hang in there! Beth :)

My Doctor just put me on Effexor as well (37.5 mg - then 75 mg - and finally 150 mg)...he also took me off Prozac and placed me on Lexapro (20 mg). I was doing okay until then. Now I am having the same type of attacks I had back in the beginning...so he gave me Lorazapam, telling me to give it time. So...maybe Effexor needs time??? to work...I know I haven't been this bad for a long time. But...I trust my Doctor. Just wished he hadn't made so many changes at one time. Melissa

Lisa, I have never heard of the first medication you mentioned, but have great benefits with Effexor over the years, but alternate off it to another SSRI occasionally. Are you in the USA, as perhaps that€™s the reason I don€™t recognize your other med? As for pond, I do think it€™s great that she (I think, sorry pond if I am wrong), but you shouldn€™t feel €œbad€ for using medications. So often it depends on the person and the extent of the problem. I tried for the first few years to avoid meds at all costs using therapy and more €œeastern€ healing methods (e.g., meditation, yoga, even running and cycling€”all of which I still do, but have learned that personally I find that medications in addition to the other things have helped enormously. Re: your Effexor€¦was the dosage brought up very slowly. It can be a difficult medication to adapt to if given too, much to fast. ~tony

hi lisa i think the anxiety/panic attacks effects us all in different ways, with the same symstoms most of the time. i didnt take meds because i was strong, its because i couldnt because of the inbalance in my head, or what i was telling myself. i think we are all brave in our own ways, each little step is an achievement. some take bigger ones and some take smaller ones. but at the end of the day we are in the same boat and support and understanding from others is what is needed. thanks, hope ur ok and good luck and wish u the best. bern
