Denise, Great job on communicating, even when things do not go well. When you stop communicating and stop using your support system you bear the burden alone. I am only on day one of my quit. I was having cravings but reading your post strengthened my resolve. Please keep posting everyone!

Thanks for posting that. I have been logged on pretty much all day as this is my quit date. It has been hard but reading your struggle has helped me. At one point, to keep from running out to get a pack I distracted myself by taking down all the Christmas decorations. I was out of breath and weezing after that and was once again reminded why I had quit. Keep your head up and thanks for helping others to be stronger by sharing your struggle. Parrot Lady, I remember those AA meetings. Members would shake their heads and say "One addiction at a time!" As they clutched their caffiene and smokes. I was one of them. You've not only let that fool addict of yours get to the front of the bus, you're letting it drive. Plan your itenerary and whatever other havok it can cause. Kick it off the bus! Right now! You are the one who is in control. Shake this off. Cry. Hit something. Run. Walk. Soak. Scream. Stay in here and talk to us. Anything, Parrot Lady. Just don't smoke! Hold onto your prize and protect it! Its your freedom. Don't throw it away. You've worked too damn hard for it. And its beautiful. ((((((HUGS))))) :)Pat. My dear parrot lady: It won't help you to go to the store and buy more cigarettes, but you know that. I went to an AA function last night too, and it was hard not to start craving a smoke and the kinship that goes with it: standing around outside with my fellow pariahs. But I didn't, and I am sooo glad. I just reminded myself how I fell for that cheap perfume on many other occasions, and so retarded my progress again and again. So last night I just didn't go there, and so today I have 17 days, instead of 0. Just remember: the craving isn't you; mentally step aside from that desire, look at it with curiosity, take some nice slow deep breaths, and stay with us!

Oops, I didn't read all the way down before I posted that! Well, there aren't too many of us who haven't been where you are right now, dear parrot lady; I certainly have been. More than once. Hop right back on the smokeless express!Text

I'm sorry I missed all this Parrott Lady and wasn't there for you, precig or postcig. I have been so busy with out of town company. Please be kind to yourself....your so correct when you say it would only take a day or two and you would be back up to over a pack a day again. You don't want that world back. You liked being smoke free. So leave those 10 hideous cigs where they should be...in the past. You are currently smoke free, and don't have to let 10 cigs turn you into the addict again. Be very very strong over the next week!!!! ParrotLady, I'm so glad you started this post. I was going to start one for you after reading your response to my Break Down. I'm not doing much today. Just have to make one quick run out. Otherwise will stick close to this site. It really is crazy how smokey AA is. I mean really, people are there to face addiction and are confronted with another. Such is the story for addiction too often I fear. You've got a lot of time under your belt. Why are you listening to Nicoderm today? Talk to me honey. I haven't heard back from you yet. How about this. Would you take the car to the store? Where are the keys? Would you walk to the store? Where are your shoes? Would you spend cash at the store? Where is your cash. Get rid of all that. What are your coping strategies? A bath? Wash the animals? Candy? Just think. You've already had 4 packs of cigarettes last night and you didn't have to buy the first one. Why do you need to buy more cigarettes today? You could just give me your money, here's my address... If you've been to AA then your familiar with the giving over concept. Your brain can be your enemy sometimes. Trust the group to offer you a healthy concept and don't second guess. Just honker down and it will pass, like a snow storm to allow a beautiful sunrise tomorrow. Are you really the only one who can hand out the smokes at work? Isn't there a psych tech or social worker or something? I'm sure they would be happy to do it for you.
