When am I quit ??

16 years ago 0 1093 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I know I can never smoke...not one...not ever. I don't feel like a non-smoker. I don't even feel like an ex-smoker. I feel like a smoker who isn't smoking. Hmm... wonder if that'll change. I don't want to smoke. I don't get tempted to smoke. I never even think about smoking. Curious... :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 178 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,340 Amount Saved: $1,041.30 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 1 Mins: 42 Seconds: 0

Thanks for the bump Sparky! This is a common question among new quitters. Danielle, Bilingual Health Educator

I think it's natural to have that dual thought process. I know I don't smoke. I am happy, glad (smug even) that I don't smoke. BUT somewhere in the back of my mind there is still that thought that one day I might. It's what they call the nicodemon calling. Old habits die hard. I am bumping this one. After reading it I also wonder when am I quit? I know I don't smoke cigarettes, but it is like I let myself think maybe one day I can. You see sometimes I can talk the talk, but the doing the walk can be so hard and other days I just skip my way though it. I do think my way though each thought, but darn it when will the thoughts go away. I really want to move on with life and have those thoughts a thing of the past. One day, yes one day it will happen. Kiwi, I understand what youre saying. Even after two weeks there are many people close to me that still dont know Im quitting or Ive quit. For me I didnt want to make grand announcements until I knew I would have the confidents and courage to not give in to temptation. I have people daily now that says oh, youve quit. My answer as been, Im quitting. I still have cravings and I quickly think of something else and place it out of my mind. I know I will not give in!!! But be careful with the though you have quit. Dont be confused, YOU ARE A NON SMOKER, but when people start thinking I HAVE QUIT!!!! This is when they let their guard down to temptation. I may never be a Quitter, but I will ALWAYS be a non smoker!!!!!! Kiwi, I understand where you and all the others are coming from even though my quit is still so new. I think it's an individual thing that happens to every quitter in their own good time. I hope one day soon you'll wake up, smile and think to yourself, yes I feel quit now. I was one of the lucky ones who felt happy and quit when I put out my last sickarette and like Rainie, I know I am never going to smoke again. I'm not missing out on anything but ill health and slavery to an addiction. I'm also aware I can never let down my guard. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Kiwi, I may be an odd ball, but I quit the day of my first smoke-free day. It was no process. I quit that day, and I'm done. The process is living differently, but I quit smoking on that day, and I am an ex-smoker, non-smoker, a person who used to smoke, but doesn't anymore. I have an addictive personality and if I smoked one, I would try 2, and then 3, and be back to smoking regularly. I will not try one, because I quit. Cigs don't exist. I can't go back to them, because they just don't exist. That's my state of mind, and it's what has made me quit. I've NEVER quit before... for 32 years. I would say I was going to, but yeah... I maybe quit for a few hours, never could even make it a day. I always said that if I could last a day, I would be done, and I am. Try to change your thinking. You quit well over 100 days ago, and that's great! Find new ways to live your life as a non-smoker. That's what I've been working on and it helps. I'm a younger non-smoker than you, and I have no idea what hurdles I may come up against, but I won't smoke again. The other day someone asked me how the smoking was going. I looked at her strangely and said: "What smoking? I don't smoke." She should have asked: "How are you handling not smoking." I would have given her an answer for that one. I'm rambling... been away from here for a couple of days, and am reading, and I must have missed putting in my 2 cents while I was gone! Hang in there! In a public place, what is your position when asked "Smoking or Non-Smoking?" Do you still wake up and think of a cigarett before you take your morning constitution? Is the last thing on your mind before you go to bed, to check your cigaretts....(make sure you have enough for tomorrow)? DO YOU SMOKE? Does Nicodemon :eg: rule your decisions NOW? Kiwi - That's a really good question. I really don't know when I felt 'quit'. The first few weeks after I quit, I didn't feel quit. The next few weeks, I didn't really feel 'quit'. But sitting here now coming up on the 2 month mark, I feel like a non-smoker. I'm not really sure when it kicked in, but it did. My personal goal is one year. That's when I will feel like I've made it, for sure. I will tell you what's happening to me lately; I've gone all day without thinking about smoking and I come home from work, sit down with my laptop, check the SSC and BAM! It reminds me what I'm going through. This site is great to vent and to help others, but I think we need to walk away from it from time to time. If we keep reminding ourselves that we are struggling through this problem, will we ever really move on? -- 2tone My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 56 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,591 Amount Saved: $308 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 8 Mins: 8 Seconds: 17

Kiwi -- I'm always glad to see your posts, and I always appreciate them; this one really resonates with me, as I continue to think that today is the day I will stop fighting. I'm begining to think that the fight will wage until I take my last (smoke-free) breath on this earth, but it's a worthy fight, and one worth winning. peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 115 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,769 Amount Saved: $632.5 Life Gained: Days: 21 Hrs: 1 Mins: 44 Seconds: 45
