When did you lose?

I also am anti-scale. Jeans are a good of not better indicator. I walk a couple of miles everyday and it seems to have gotten things back under control. I do think your body has to adjust to the quit. Also, when you are doing all the right things and you just can't understand why you continue to gain (women) can ask themselves if they are nearing that time of the month. That happened to me. I promise it will come off but you are going to have to really work. I have been very small my whole life- 5'7, 125 lbs but when I quit smoking I gained over 10 lbs. I am unable to get any of it off- my body is just getting back to what is notmal for my height- the weight I was while smoking was not really healthy. Anyway, I work out 5 days a week and though I have not lost weight I look better than I ever have. I can run 3 miles in 25 minutes!! So I guess my point is don;t worry so much about the weight but more about how you FEEL. Toss the scale, it is a girl's worst enemy, especially one who is quitting smoking. Your metabolism should level out soon, but it won't ever be as fast as when you smoked. That was not natural or healthy- just think about how much higher your blood pressure was to sustain that high metabolism!! So keep exercising, you are doing beautifully and even if you don't lose weight you will look and feel like a million bucks!! Good job on 45 smoke free days! ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/9/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 129 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,036 Amount Saved: $456.66 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 13 Mins: 29 Seconds: 17

Ok so I lied before. I feel awesome and I went against my beliefs and weighed myself at the gym last night. I am down 5 poinds!! Very exciting. So, you see it is possible you just have to be patient while your body becomes accustomed to your quit and the extra 200 calories per day you are not burning by smoking. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi Karen - I started exercising more right at the beginning of my quit which helped alot. Unfortunately, I would eat breakfast, go to the gym and then stop of the drive thru for another breakfast (That part didn't seem to help) I was totally discouraged when I gained 5 lbs in one week. I started losing weight somewhere around the 100 mark when I started cutting back on how much I ate (i.e. just one breakfast/one helping of mashed potatos and chicken instead of 2 or 3) and continuing to exercise. That did the first 5 lbs. The second 5 lbs involved changing eating habits (still eating lots but eating healthier) However, I do think my body is getting back to normal now because I seem to be able to "cheat" or miss the odd day at the gym without gaining weight like I did at the beginning of my quit. Soooooooooooo....I gained 10 lbs in 3 months and lost it in about a month and a half....Now I'm working on losing those extra pounds that were around long before I ever quit smoking. Good luck to you. Karen, Everything is possible if you put your mind to it. I gained about 5 pounds but needed to loose about 20 before my quit. Now I lost 5 pounds (on the scale) but also lost some inches since I'm wearing clothes that two weeks ago couldn't. I'm basically eating better (no white flour) and excercising. Good Luck!! My hubby just quit 1 month ago and he never gains weight..till now. I think your body is just adjusting from all the toxins in your body. I know I retained more water for a short time. I also had to take a look at what I was putting in my mouth..sugar free candy now. I am at 6 months quit and my body is finally balancing out. I need to loose the weight I gained but it was so worth it. Only really checked my weight gain a few weeks ago. I put on half a stone over seven weeks (eeeeeeek!) and have lost it in 3 weeks by cutting down slightly (i.e. I don't go into a cafe every day for a pot of tea and large cake, I have a large bowl of veg soup instead; and I don't drink copious amounts of wine every night, I have a couple of G + Ts a couple of nights a week. that sort of thing) and going to the gym. I also try and walk for 30 minutes the days I'm not at the gym. BUT, I was overweight to start with and di NO exercise at all so my metabolism is undoubtedly kicked! lol Like Windy, I am now hoping to keep going as I'm about 1.5 to 2 stones above what used to be my "norm". Good for you 2stubborn! Yes, I know what you mean about the scale. But, as you can see, it does feel good when the number is going down! ;) Myself, I'm still not losing! I am going to the gym 3 - 5 times a week and I've recently started yoga. I am eating very healthy. Although I have to confess that my sweet tooth has gotten the better of me on a few occassions... But I am working on that. (I'm currently munching on carrot sticks!) Karen. OK, this is for all of you successful quitters who have gained and lost some weight. How long after your quit did you finally get back to normal? Or did you? I am not gaining any weight right now, but I'm not losing either. (I actually gained some last year when I unsuccessfully tried to quit, and then some more over Christmas just before my current quit) I need to lose 20 pounds and it's just not budging! I am eating right and exercising. I don't know what I'm doing wrong except maybe my metabolism has slowed down. Please tell me it's possible to lose this extra weight and you know because you've done it. I need reassurance!
