Coping with the 3 month mark. Advice?

I think that if you are looking for tough times, then you will surely have them. Your body is different then everyone else's, you might sail right past that milestone. You must be doing something right to have gotten to where you are - you will continue to do fine! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/8/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 37 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 561 Amount Saved: $155.4 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 11 Mins: 4 Seconds: 26

I have to disagree with the bulk of the 'don't think about it' comments here. Clearly you ARE thinking about it, and if you brush the thought under the carpet it may jump up to bite you in the caboose when you're not looking. No matter how often you post here, no matter how close you are to others here, no one knows you better than you. If you operate in other areas of your life by planning well in advance (think vacations for instance) why on earth would you operate differently on something that matters more than anything else? Your quit. Your health. Your future. The great news is, you've been there before, had some trouble and now recognise that you'll get to three months again and you really want to surpass it. You want to be ready for it this time because you're committed to your quit and are planning well ahead to see to it you stay strong. I don't see a thing wrong with that. The spa sounds like the ideal solution, and I agree here, that you should line up the rewards but NOT ONLY FOR THREE MONTHS. Reward yourself today. Tomorrow. Every single day you're proud of what you've done. Stay strong and enjoy as you breeze past three and on to four, five, years, decades... Go get 'em :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 44 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,028 Amount Saved: 242 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 18 Mins: 19 Seconds: 9

serenity2 How's your day going? Mine is going Great looking at the ice on the trees...and feeling very safe and warm in my home and my New Quit. My husband and I were having a very serious discussion a little while ago...(could have been a trigger...if I had let it) This was a serious discussion, almost very close to an argument that normally would have required the lighting up of a cigarett. He grabbed his pack of cigarettes and at the same moment looked me in the eyes, and said guiltily with a smile on his face,"sorry, I forgot. I was just going to light up right here as usual" I said, "Honey, it's OK if you want to smoke...I'm past that now". He said "no, I don't want to bring it around you". Are you using an NRT, Cold-Turkey or what? I am past the habit of lighting up upon a trigger: I don't grab a cig on my way to the potty in the am I don't smoke watching TV I don't smoke at my PC I don't want a cigarett now and at this stage of your successful quit...neither should you. The 3-month mark coming up? If anything you should be stronger when that date gets here! Here is my tip for you: Do you want to go through withdrawal again? Keep the quit! auntdeb :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 43 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,171 Amount Saved: $204.25 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 23 Mins: 24 Seconds: 35

Serenity you are doing so beautifully with your quit! I have to agree with everyone here and that is to take it all one day at a time and embrace and celebrate what you have achieved and what you will achieve in the day you are in. Thinking about the future in a negative way will only lead you down a negative path. One has to think as positive as possible and also to remind yourself that 'hey look at ME! I'm doing SOOOO well!' I sure hope you are proud because we are proud of you :) (((((((((((HUGS OF SUPPORT)))))))))) Monica58 My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/12/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 32 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 653 Amount Saved: $288 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 16 Mins: 9 Seconds: 19

Yes Serenity rewards are very important and your reward to the spa sounds super! I agree with you re the number of days quit and keeping track. Bottom line is that you are a non smoker - but you have to admit seeing the number of days quit grow from day to day is exciting huh? As I said before you are doing beautifully .. keep it up girl and enjoy your spa day :) (((((((((((hugs))))))))) Monica58 My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/12/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 33 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 666 Amount Saved: $297 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 17 Mins: 49 Seconds: 51

S Dont even THINK that far ahead in terms of problems. You are OK today one day one second whatever at atime. PLEASE dont picture problems for the future those pictures in your mind are very powerful! Picture a smoke free 3 months,4 months, and six months etc and think about that every day! I did it works!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Serenity, I have to agree with Phil. Don't stress over a time period that is a month away! I understand your fears, but you're not going to smoke! You're not! So don't even go there! When, and more importantly, IF you have problems at the 3 month mark, then we'll be here to help you through it! Stressing over it now will most likely bring on cravings now and will not suit any purpose. You're doing great sweetie! Just keep on doin' what you've been doin', and you'll be just fine! Crave the Quit! Hi all. I'm posting well in advance here for some advice. I stopped once before in the dim and distant past and I remember that coming up for around the 3 month quit mark, was very, VERY tough and uncomfortable for me. At just past 9 weeks, I want to prepare myself to get through this stage this time around, as well as I can. Has anybody done this recently or anybody who has tips to offer? Thanks, Seren My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/10/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 65 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,287 Amount Saved: 390 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 17 Mins: 22 Seconds: 43

Thanks for the help guys. I do generally focus on the positives, if I think of this quit at all. In fact most of the time, I never think about how long I am quit and lose track, because I view it as a state of permanency and so the day is kind of immaterial? if that makes any sense. But the "reward" word is one that I have kind of forgotten about. So I think I am going to book something nice for myself and daughter, maybe a spa day type thing, for my daughter and I for just after the 3 month point. It WILL be a biggie to me getting past that, so we might as well have a decent reward I think!
