Making it Happen

Hi everyone! I quit smoking January 21st. This past Sunday was Three weeks!! I have quit many...many...many times. Actually several times each year. Each time I quit..(and failed)...I learned to do something without smoking. So even though I failed I did not return to smoking in my car. The next time I failed I didn't go back to smoking at work. Then when I failed again.. I didn't go back to smoking in public. So I think this time is much easier as I have less triggers. I am using the nicorette gum. I have about 3 to 4 pieces a day. I don't want to wean off too fast. I want this quit to be a conscious choice for life. I have so many reasons. The quits taught me it is doe-able...but it also taught me that you can very easily un-do it also. That it really is a day by day challenge to say NO!! I also learned that with each day it gets a little easier and that you must not give the little lurking voice to smoke any creedence. The faster you dismiss it.... the faster it goes away. If you picture yourself smoking visually you will just make it agonizing. Visually seeing yourself NOT smoking is so powerful. Well.. I wanted to say hello and to say you are all doing a great job. Some of you have been quit for awhile and you give me inspiration to keep going. Thank you all for the warm welcome. I have been here before and have read so much. I have learned allot here also. I hated the guilt I felt when I failed...and then wouldn't write anymore. Phil,...you're right... the road does get bumpy sometimes. mercy, That is such a great idea!!! I mean you are learning something each time you slip, and using that as a means to go on farther. I think you will make it this time. If you feel like you are going to slip again, come to the group and ask for help. Is that a deal? Jnine :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 30 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 600 Amount Saved: $82.5 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 22 Mins: 14 Seconds: 51

Mercy: Congratulations -- you're into week 4, one month just around the corner for you! Your post tells me you have been reading here and learning so much about your addiction and how to really conquer the demon. You're absolutely right -- how you talk to yourself, especially when you think you want a cigarette -- is critical to your success. Keep remembering the many, many reasons you chose to be a nonsmoker -- it was a wise decision and will continue the best possible decision you can make. You're worth it. Keep us posted on your progress, ok? You're doing SO well!!
