Dr Jan...You made me realize that I have made progress all along. Afew years ago, I started postponing my first cigarette of the day until I had reached a point where I rarely smoked before 3 or 4 p.m.
This worked (in a way)...The first half of my day was non-smoking and the second half of my day was chain-smoking.
The problem was that I spent the first half of my day waiting for the second half of my day to start. Now, I still get cravings in the evening (but why wouldn't I after so many years of power smoking) but now I get up earlier and enjoy my day........Smoking doesn't even enter my thoughts until sometime after supper.
15 years ago, I smoked all day at work....Now I never think about it. Gradually, my evening craves will get weaker and weaker too....and smoking will be a distant memory!
Sometimes I'm not sure that I am making progress. Your post reminded me that I am.
