Everything is Fine....BUT

Update: Last night I went to my friends, I was helping her chaperone her daughter's 16th birthday party. When the kid party was over, the adult party started. It was funny because even before the adult party started, I was really thinking about cigs alot. Fortunately, we did not have any, so all I could do was think, and with coming up on my four week anniversary this week...I really didn't want to blow it. So I muddled through and kept busy running snacks and things downstairs to the teenagers (also this was a great way to keep an eye on them). I realized throughout the course of the night, that it wasn't really the cigerette I wanted. It was the special alone time with my friend in the garage that I was missing. Each hour was a small victory for me, but it also became a little harder. But I knew I had to get one night under my belt with her without smoking. I knew I was strong enough to handle it, but at the same time, my thoughts of cigerette's were constant all night. I think I ate more than the teenagers to keep my hands and mouth busy (paying for it today). As the night progressed and the sweet 16 party came to a close, the adult party started. The wine and beer and tequila was flowing. My friend and I sat in the comfort of her cozy warm livingroom, talking and laughing for the next few hours. We talked about smoking and how she is ok with never having another one again (she is a closet smoker and can go weeks without a cigerette). We talked about my quit and we talked about how a cig would be really great at one moment, but we both looked at each and said almost at the same time, "we don't need it"...of course this sent us into hysterical laughing....(and now I'm not sure why, I think it was the tequila.) My sister and brother-in-law stopped by and they both smoke....after being there only about 15 minutes...they went outside to smoke and announced if anyone wanted to come and smoke...I was actually a little perterbed that they would do that, knowing I am quitting and knowing that I am under the influence....but I didn't go and neither did my friend. We stayed in the warm house, poured ourselves another glass of wine and stayed smoke free. When I woke up this morning, I was a little "under the weather", but I woke up still smok

That's great to hear...at first, I thought it was my imagination....or I was taking more time to apply makeup...but it isn't. There is an outwardly physical difference when you quit smoking...yet another great benefit to quitting...Thanks! To be honest, you guys really are fantastic. Thank you everyone for your support to this post. I reread everything this morning, and you guys are the best, and I won't forget all your supporting words. Your words stay with me through my cravings, and today is another great day. I've completed 13 full days, and rewarded myself this weekend with an air freshner for my car and a new CD to listen to in my car as I travel to work and kid events. One positive thing is my hubby on returning from deer camp said that my complexion looks great (ok, so he was with a bunch of scruffy men for 6 days, but I'll take it), but seriously, the bags under my eyes have disappeared and so has the dark circles. The color is back in my cheecks and I require less make-up to even out the skin tone. Smoking was sucking the life out of me...I feel a new hope for the future today. I'm so excited!! Life is good without smoking!!! Tonight was huge for me. Thanks Shevelin and Cheermom, I wouldn't be sitting her smiling if it weren't for the two of you. I'm almost through heck week....and I have found my biggest trigger... This trigger is probably the downfall of my previous attempts to quit. Smoking and drinking with my two best girls (no names today). They invited me over, I managed to stay for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, drink a glass of wine and avoid the garage altogether (our usual smoking stomping ground together). Luckily I had to leave to pick up my daughter and her friend from volleyball practice, so one glass of wine was well enjoyed, and so was the conversation in the safety of the nonsmoking kitchen. As I left, they were begging me to come back. I told them I would call and let them know. I love my friends. We have been friends for over 16 years, and they really are the best, but let's face we love to party together (we all do other fun activities that do not involve any alcohol). When we party, we smoke and talk until 3:00 or 4:00 a.m. Oh boy, we have solved all the problems in the world during these wonderful bonding times (lol). Tonight was different. I knew I was not strong enough in my quit to be able to survive one of these most loved bonding moments. I got home with my daughter, and made the dreaded call to my friends...the call that said I wasn't coming back over tonight. They of course insisted we would not smoke (and I belive they are true friends and hid all cigerette butts, packs and lighter's), but I'm just not ready yet. My quit is very important....and so is my future health. That certainly was not easy and it was so tempting, but I had no other choice. Plain and simple, I'm not ready yet. I will be ready some day, and when that day comes, I'm sure I will know it. But today is not the day. I refuse to live the rest of my life "not" doing the things I love because I associate them with smoking, but I will make sure that I have all the strength and coping mechanisms in place to handle myself in these situations. Just as much as I refuse to give up the fun times....I also refuse to give up on myself and my quit. Thanks for listening....I've got my PJ's on...the tea pot is heating up, and I'm ready to watch some chick flicks with my

Thanks everyone for the posts...cheermom....call me anytime! Just an update...today was a great day!! Daughter made the Freshman Volleyball team (woohoo), I had a potluck at church (never had to sneak out for a cig), and the hubby is back from deer camp (tossing him in the shower to get the manly bonding smell off of him). Today has been the best day yet of my quit, and I'm relishing it. Hang tough everyone! re: the original post. This quit'n thing involves a lot of changes, the extent to which we become aware only through the journey. But, surely a lot more changes than just not sticking a tube of tobacco-filled paper in our mouth. Oh my yes, the complexion of my skin has changed dramatically. Also lost the circles around my eyes and overall my face looks much more relaxed since quitting 3 weeks ago! I'm very pleased with these perks.. never really thought about the outward appearances.. and oh yes,, my teeth are whiter too! Kaitilina, you are doing soooo well!
