THE ULTIMATUM

Hi Jan...We'll never get sick of you. I'm a little tired of myself right now...but you...never! It's strange because just before I read your post, I read Sparky's...and she talked about how it just "clicked". I think there comes a time in each of our quits when that happens. If we're lucky, we start out that way...but for others if comes later in the quit or after afew attempts. I know that there are plenty of times that I need entertainment (when I am bored), rewards for a hectic day, stress-reduction, anxiety-reduction, etc. However, I really think that we have made ourselves believe that cigarettes do this for us....when in reality they make things worse. The hard part of this is that we were teenagers when we picked up this stupid addiction, so we haven't learned how to properly take care of ourselves. This is a HUGE learning curve for us........but so much worth it. We never want to lose you Jan. You can do this! Today...I smoked. I could say "slip", it doesn't sound so bad, but I smoked. Therefore I have given myself an ultimatum. I either get it together and STOP fooling around with my life OR say goodbye to all of you at SSC. I can't tell you what prompted it, and if I could it would just be excuses. There are no excuses. My son said to me, "Mom, you can't want it bad enough." I DO...I DO!!! So its p*** or get off the pot! I am much happier when I'm not smoking. Compared to this I am, anyway. My life is important, and I think I got a good kick in the pants from my son. Plus, I've made so many friends here at SSC and would never want to lose them. So the decision is clear...I WILL NOT SMOKE!!!! Don't want you guys to get sick of me, so no more slips. Thanks for being there, Jan

God bless you all. Thank you so much. I really didn't want to post and say what I had done, but it wouldn't have helped if I'd kept this to myself(which is what I really wanted to do). No, I need help and right now you guys are my lifeline. I will do this. Yes the beginning stages of the journey are scary, but like Phil said in a post, certainly not as scary as finding out you have cancer. It just has to be put into perspective. So yes, I will dust myself off, pick myself up, and start all over again. Stormy, MissyFit, Windy, Sparky and Lady. Thanks sooooo much. Love, Jan

Thanks Josie, Gonna, and Coben, for the wonderful support. You know, I'd look into Chantix if I could, but from what I understand its not available in Canada yet. Darn! Oh well, going to see the doc this week. River, Theresita, and Deli, thank you for extending your hand to me. It means soooo much. I put my patch on last night, and am purely and wholly smoke free this morning. I want this quit so much and I am tired of letting myself down. I have a brand new quit journal and some "happy face stickers" for each smoke free day I have. I intend to make full use of them. thanks again everyone. Hi Jan... We are family....we are proud of you.... You must have been suffering in the moment of weakness. Now your strength, will, determination are with you and your family is surrounding you. Bravo for not letting us go or letting yourself go or letting your son lose faith in you. You know you "want it bad enough" that is why you are here hanging in with us. Keep up the good work. Keep your focus. Keep posting. Keep connecting. Keep the quit. Love and Light... Hi Jan, Sorry I wasn't around when this happenend. I was away from home, working - so I was a bit confused when I came back and saw your meter re-set. It's taken me until now to find this thread - I'm a bit slow... sorry Well, what can I say? I am SO glad that you haven't said goodbye to all of us here. That would have been really sad. I don't care how many attempts it takes for you to be free from cigarettes, none of us here will ever be sick of you - I am certain that I can speak for one and all in this! You will get there, Jan. You want to quit, so you will. Keep at it, as you are - you will get there in the end. Sending you a big hug, Deli My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 105 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,579 Amount Saved: 315 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 11 Mins: 21 Seconds: 45

Hi Jan, Wow, I'd have to say I wasn't expecting that one. I guess it just goes to show how quickly "nic" can change our perspective, but please, please don't say goodbye. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back at it. Hang in there even if it means one minute at a time. You are having a tough time with this, aren't you? Sounds like...who...ME! Off and on for 5 months. Up and down, on and off with the patches. Jan, why don't you make an appointment with your Dr. and tell him what's going on. This Chantix is hard to explain, but the desire to smoke just is not there. Urges and craves seem to be fleeting thoughts. I'm not real sure how it does that, because the first week I swore I felt no difference. The increase in the second week made all the difference. Sending big hugs your way. Don't be too hard on yourself...
