Hi Ken.. Nice to see you dropping in. To answer your question, yes, I made it to the hall of fame in April. It was an awesome accomplishment. I have now graduated from school and my quit is good. Amazing huh. Things really do change. Thank goodness. We are almost there to that one year of freedom! Glad you stopped by. Hope all is well with you. See you at that big one year celebration! Anyone else?????? Surely you folks have some opinions out there. I really would like to hear them. Are you agonizing your quit? Are you embracing the freedom? Are you finding a new life? Has your world changed? Tell us how you feel. You described it so well Breaking Free! Some days little changes, some days stuck and some days big changes. Me too. One step at a time. Eventually we reach a whole new world without the smokes. Anyone else? Hi Beb. Welcome to our quit family. When you need to vent feel free to come here and do it. We can take it. Most of us were exactly as you just described when we first quit. It's called HELL week and they don't call it that for nothing. Take some deep breaths and drink a lot of ice water. Helps with the craves. As far as being a real xxxxx try to stop and think before you speak. If you can't do that, just go ahead and tell everyone exactly how you feel and what you think of them and then blame it on the quit :p . I'm sure your loved ones know you are going through a rough time. Just apologize a lot. That is what I had to do. This is a temporary stage. There will actually come a day when you will all look back and laugh about it. My family and friends have. I'm sure they still love you and just want to see you quit. Quitting changes your life but the changes come slowly. You have to hang on tight because it is so very, very difficult to break free of the addiction. You also need to remember that this is an Addiction. Learn all you can about it. The things that helped me in the beginning were, this site, read, post, read, post and read and post. I would read about people who had lung cancer or other smoking related diseases. Look at the pictures too, scary stuff there. Kick, scream, fight, yell, cry, whatever it takes, just don't smoke. N.O.P.E. Not One Puff Ever. That is how we all quit. One day at a time. One step at a time. I hope this helps. You will get to your new world. Just don't smoke and you will make it. It really does get better. I would really like to hear what some of the newer quitters have to say. :quest: :confuse: :quest: My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 355 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,108 Amount Saved: $1242.5 Life Gained: Days: 31 Hrs: 7 Mins: 46 Seconds: 36

Excellent idea Laura! Just for the record, I am not impatient with anyone. I am trying to help. If you had seen me about 10 months ago, you would know I am the queen of the Pity Pot and I can whine with the best of them. :p It is great to see everyone rallying together and supporting each other. It's my opinion that we need some Cheer to go with the whine :) A weekend party sounds perfect! It's been a long time since we had one of them. I see so many quitters agonizing over their quits and I just want to say STOP IT! Do not get me wrong. I have whined throughout my entire quit and I have been depressed. There have been days that I didnt know which way was up and I have spent many, many days in the pity pot. Trust me when I say I UNDERSTAND what you are going through out there. Sorting out the feelings you are experiencing can be very difficult. If it is too much for you to handle right now, quit analyzing the way you feel and put those thoughts on the back burner for the time being. Tomorrow is another day. Quitting smoking is like being given a new life. It is almost as if we are able to wipe the slate clean and start all over again. When we quit smoking, we change. The way we think, the way we deal with things and other people changes. We see the world through different eyes. I have always told my children It is up to you what kind of person you want to be. Drag out those positive attitudes. You NEED them for your quit. Look at the good not the bad. See the cup as half full not half empty. You are fighting for your lives and you are winning! It is a slow process that includes one battle at a time; one day at a time; one step at a time; one craving at a time. There was an awesome group of quitters around when I quit. One thing that kept us going was each other! We leaned on each other, we fought together, we laughed, and we cried, we joked, we partied and we celebrated every milestone together. The Smobers are an excellent group of quitters and the majority of us are still quit so I am sharing this information with you in hopes that it helps you to get off your butts, get rid of the butts and get through this quit! There is power in numbers. Be accountable not only to yourself but to your fellow quit mates on these boards. Laugh together! Laugh, laugh and laugh some more. Laughter really is the best medicine. If you were to do a search (on this site) on the word Smobers, you would find most of those threads to be parties where quitters were desperately doing everything in their power to hold on to their quits. The smobers cried together but most importantly, we laughed together. And then the Freaks followed in those steps.

Beb, I was just like you back in 2004 when I had a 10+ month quit. I was a vile, nasty individual. Now, some will say that nothing has changed... ;p What did I do? I started back smoking for 6 months. During that time I learned a lot about the quit process and about me. I used that hiatus to fine tune my behavior and retool my attitude. When I quit for the last time, on 5/15/05, I truly wanted to quit. I looked forward to it and the new life that I was entering into. I am almost 53 and smoked for ummm... way too many of those years! (How many 3rd graders do you know have smoked??) To make a long story short, I have been where you are. I learned how to still be my old self and be quit. It doesn't happen overnight. I had to work at it. I stumbled and fell and got back up. As you can see from my stats, I've made it. I have not only made it in terms of not smoking, I've made it as a person who is still the same as they were when they smoked. You can do this. Smoking is an addiction. Accept that. Be proud to be an ex junkie. When you accept the new life you have carved out for yourself, all of the anger and bitterness will go away. Attitude. That is what it's all about. Here is a quote for you to ponder.. "May we never let the things we can't have, or don't have, or shouldn't have, spoil our enjoyment of the things we do have and can have. As we value our happiness, let us not forget it, for one of the greatest lessons in life is learning to be happy without the things we cannot or should not have." Richard L. Lady, I couldn't have said it better myself! ;p Hmmm... come to think of it, if I posted something like this it might have been a tad more rough around the edges.. :eg: Kudos Lady for yet another pearl for all who wander this site. You, me and the rest of us with hundreds of days quit didn't get this way by being wrapped around the axle with our quits. We got it done. Life does go on! Be Strong. Be Smart.
