Am I right?

MMMMMMHHMMM. I don't know about your point Phil. :quest:It seems like I see 10, 15 new names in the intro board everytime I come here. :confuse: I have also seen quite afew slip, since I have been here. :| I will say this. The ones that come and post, ask questions, They are the ones I see making it. However it would be interesting to find out a percent of who is signing up and who has made it. Or who has slipped. I do beleave coming here, being prepared and determination is the key to beating this thing. :p ;p Grace

Grace, it would depend on what you mean by the "making it." If a slip means that you don't "make it" then there are a lot of us who didn't "make it" including myself. I've "slipped" 3 times since coming to this site in June of 2005 (I rejoined a few months ago). So, I think "making it" is a very subjective thing. A slip doesn't mean that the person won't succeed. Second, I think that there is a direct link between posting and keeping a quit and Mr. Ed started a very thought provoking thread on this very subject a while back... I'll see if I can find it and bump it. Yes, I think that those who "invest" more by posting a lot and getting involved tend to do better, but that's not, of course, a guarantee. I have seen MANY extremely active posters slip and/or relapse and even have multiple relapses... even though they post a lot. I also know MANY people who just lurk and don't post a lot, and mainly only post on their milestones who are quite successful at the quit even though they never post. So it really just depends on the person. But I do think that everyone is doing a fantastic job right now and no matter what the reason is, we are all here being successful at the quit and that's what's important. Crave the Quit! Grace, I couldn't agree more! I definitely believe that posting here helps people keep their quits... I know for me it did! Crave the Quit! I don't know... last year around this time, there were 3 people who had substantial quits (me and two others) who all lost their quits around the same time... and then others started having problems and questioning their quits because so many long-term quitters were having trouble. So I don't think that it has anything to do with this particular season... I don't know why it is, but I do think that everyone is doing awesome and that we should all keep it up! Crave the Quit! I've noticed that the site seems to go in waves. It's a cyclical pattern. For some reason, several quitters will lose their quits all at once, and then there won't be very many people slipping or relapsing for a while. It's weird how it happens, but right now, we're in an time where that's not happening a lot and that's great! I hope we never have another one of those times when lots of people lose their quits all at the same time again! Crave the Quit! McLaughlin, First of all, I'm sure I don't have a choice about it... I'm sure a post will be started for me whether I like it or not (and I do! :) ). Second of all, I know that feeling of sadness you talk about... I went through that in June - the day I would have hit a year if I hadn't slipped. But just to let you know, I am even MORE excited about this one than I think I would have been in June because I know how much I have overcome to get here. So there's some hope for ya in a year's time when you're hitting one year, just know that it will be absolutely amazing because you have this wonderful group of people to celebrate it with you and you have will have overcome so much! :) You WILL get there! I'll keep you in my sights, k? Thanks for the well wishes! Crave the Quit! Hi Phil! I've noticed that lately too!! Must be all the support from here and these quitters are determined!!! I've had my rocky moments but I'm choosing to not smoke. I actually have control over my life finally. Took me years but I did it (even with a spouse that smokes). Hugs to everyone!~ Kim My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 140 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,509 Amount Saved: $567 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 8 Mins: 55 Seconds: 34
