    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Congrats on your decision to quit smoking. Knowledge is power, so get prepared. Get prepared for your mind to deal with emotions without the mask of a drug. Know that the nicotine in cigarettes has caused you to be physically addicted. Take comfort in knowing the physical withdrawal will stop approximately 72 hours if you can resist nicotine products. Be fully aware that your life routine will have to be experienced without smoking cigarettes for you to be quit. So throw them away. Do not save any. What is your routine? When do you smoke? Make a list of your triggers (when you would normally smoke). It is better to think about all of these things ahead of time so that you can go into battle prepared. Replace your bad habit (smoking) with good habits. Read about healthy ways to deal with stress/emotions and start practicing your new coping skills. Get yourself ready physically by walking more, take in more fluids, get plenty of rest and avoid becoming overtired. Tell people around you that youre going to quit. Get yourself a Quit Buddy who will be there to provide you personal quit-smoking help and support. Fight the urge to protect yourself from looking silly if you dont make it all the way. Believe in yourself from the very beginning. Make it come true. If you dont make it this time, what matters is that you get back up and try again. Also, dont forget to make rewards a part of your plan. Quitting takes a lot of work, so you want to make sure you give yourself credit along the way. Keep a list of rewards you look forward to - it will help keep you motivated. Watch out for alcohol, social situations, other smokers, weight gain, and bad moods/depression. These things can make you fall off the Quit Wagon. Like Ive said be prepared for these things. Weve quit. You can too. Well be here to support you if you need us. I look forward to celebrating your milestones with you. Phiber_Optik, Congratulations on quitting and welcome to the SSC! Keep working through the program and remember this is a learning experience and practicing this new habit of not smoking takes time before it becomes second nature. Take some time to look at your last quit attempt. Pull out the strategies that worked best for you when trying to fight cravings and modify/change the ones that didn't. What led to your slip/relapse? Any triggers? How will you get around them this time? Furthermore, take some time to observe your current routines. When do you smoke? why? and strengthen your quit plan by basing it on your observations. Ex: You use to have coffee and a cigarette first thing in the morning. Now you'll read the paper while drinking your coffee? Do you have a reward system? It should have three components: small one for after each craving, medium for the end of each smoke-free day and a bigger one for the end of each smoke-free week. It doesn't matter what reward you choose so long as you value it and are willing to work for it. Do you have a list of distractions? You've already reduced the amount you were smoking! That's great progress! Keep us posted, Danielle _________________________ The SSC Support Team

Welcome. Be sure you shred that butt. Reason, if there is anything left for just one puff you may be tempted. Past experience :p I quit a few days ago and had a funeral for my butts. They are dead and buried. Hope to see you around often. Hi Phiber_Optik - Danielle has given you some great advice... the reason you tumbled off that wagon is that you're an addict... There will be many excuses that will come up again... AND if your desire to Quit is stronger then your desire to light up, you will have a forever Quit... Stay close to this site and read old posts - just get comfortable, kick those shoes off and read... there is such powerful info here, and I know this place kept me quit in the beginning, when I needed help, support and focus... It can do the same for you if you let it. Coping skills - you will need them. You did it for 6 months, so you know what to do, friend... Post often and know we're right here for you!
