Hope,
Here are some tips for the SSC IM Messenger, if you have any further problems, please contact us via feedback to assist you further.
First off, heres a direct link to the correct version of the .net framework which the users will need to run the instant messenger. Its version 1.1, and can be found at:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/a/a/c/aac39226-8825-44ce-90e3-bf8203e74006/dotnetfx.exe
You need to download this first before you download the IM Messenger
Secondly, our instant messenger uses port # 8010, which some firewalls block, causing users to not be able to connect with our servers.
Thirdly, if a user has inconsistent internet connectivity, the instant messenger will likely fail on them. Each messenger installed on a clients computer polls our central server about once a minute, if there is no internet connectivity while it attempts to do this, the application fails.
Fourthly, the instant messenger doesnt function on Mac computers, nor on linux machines, nor on Windows 95 machines.
The basic steps to use it successfully are as follows:
- Click the Add Buddy button besides a users name in the support group.
- Ensure the .net framework is installed on your computer (if not, download from the link)
- Download the Instant Messenger application from the glove compartment page in the online quit program
- Install the application by double-clicking on the file that was downloaded
- Once installed, click the icon it places on the desktop to run it, or check in the start menu for an icon to start it
- Log in with the email address and password used for the online quit program
- Any users added by clicking the Add Buddy button in support group will be shown in a list. The list groups online users together, as well as offline users together.
- If any of these users are found online, double-clicking on their name will open a new window to converse with this user. Messages sent will only be received by this user.
Hope this helps,
Josie
