hannaher...
I think your friends probably do care about you but they sense they'll just be too uncomfortable with feeling they can't feed their addiction as they feel like it. Anyway, with 3 smokers in the same car...and all 3 taking different smoke breaks...you'd have to add 3 days to your trip just to get there ;)
I would think that your friends are probably envious that you've quit too. I know when I was a smoker, that if someone told me they'd quit smoking it would put those thoughts in my mind that I needed to quit as well. That made me feel guilty...and somehow pressured?...although it was self imposed. Every time I saw them, I'd ask.."so are you still quit?". I'm not sure why, but I always awaited their failure. If they were still going strong, then my guilt and thinking only increased. You're planting seeds in your friends minds and I'm sure at some level they're envious of your quit. I don't know a smoker alive that deep down wishes they didn't smoke.
I think you've made a wise decision in going with your sister. This will show your friends that you're very serious about your quit. You can still be friends, just not cooped up with them to the point that you feel your quit is endangered. If then, on short term, they refuse to be with you so they can smoke... I'd definitely wonder if they were true friends...but I doubt that'll be the case. Sincere people in your life won't stop caring about you just because you've quit smoking. Creatures of habit (and addiction) are hard to change. Someday in the future, maybe you'll feel stronger to the point that you can go with them... but by then, you may not be the only person that quit smoking in your circle of friends :)
Hang in there.
