Rachel: Work the program to the left of your screen. Prepare yourself for this quit. Rewards are an important part of quitting. You didn't become addicted to cigarettes overnight and you are not going to be cured "overnight". It's okay to cry---we do that a whole lot around here! LOL Post as often as you need to---you are NEVER a bother to ANY of us. We have all been where you are right now. Your choice to quit smoking is the BEST decision you can make! Hugs and prayers coming your way!
I guess it comes down to a simple choice, really-get busy livin' or get busy dyin'. Hope...(leaving off the less :) ) I cried a river of tears early in my quit. Sometimes I really couldn't do much else. But you know what? I survived and so can you. You can kick, scream, cry, fight, break dishes, whatever it takes, just don't smoke and it will get better. Those days seem to go by so slowly in the beginning. Be patient with yourself. You are going through a lot emotionally and physically. Each day gets better. A little bit at a time. The one day you wake up and say... Hey, I did it! And you will be so proud. Post all you want. That is what this place is here for. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 442 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,856 Amount Saved: $1547 Life Gained: Days: 39 Hrs: 0 Mins: 34 Seconds: 2

okay - breathe in breathe out. Take it slow. Have you done the quit tools on the left? Have you set up your schedule of rewards? (mine was a massage at the end of week one, then a pedicure....river rafting after a month) Have you figured out what you are going to do to cope? Do you have straws or ice water handy? Do you have old dishes to throw at trees? Pillows to pound? Have you stocked up on kleenex? I sobbed my way through week one. Slept and sobbed. Got into a big fight with my hubby. But you know, each one of the symptoms is a sign of healing from this awful addiction. Withdrawal is no fun, but oh how delicious is the freedom. This is so possible. This site is full of people who have succeeded. Make a commitment to NOPE (not one puff ever) and soon you will realize that your best friend is YOU, not that filthy cancer stick. At first you might feel obsessed with what you are missing....(like copd and cancer????), but try to embrace and love your quit, rather than grieve for this stupid addiction. One day you will wonder what in the heck took you so long. Post all the time. I whined and cried here and spent every free moment here the first month. The folks here saved my quit. You can do this! Make a list of rewards to reward yourself on a great job throughout your quit. You can reward yourself everyday if needed! Reward yourself after one month, 6 months, 1 year 2 weeks or even 2 days. This is a great way to validate your quit and to help you reach your goal. Rewards can be expensive, cheap, creative or just plain making you happy :) You can also put away the money you used on cigarettes and check back in a couple of weeks, you will be pleasantly surprised and may be able to make a trip out of it! Hopless, This is normal so let it all out. Take some you time and concentrate and prepare. Use the rewards system to reach your goal of one week, then pamper yourself all day. Sometimes we need a day or two to get ourselves together, it is ok to do this and we are here for you :) Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
