My husband and I quit smoking back in June and I'm the only one who stuck to my quit. He started back up in August AFTER our reward trip (2 months quit thrown out the window) and I've known he smoked for the past couple months but he denied it until this past weekend. Did he figure I wouldnt' find out? Heck I'm a non-smoker of course I can SMELL it. I would agree with alot of posts here, it stinks but I do miss smoking with my husband. I almost feel like he's "cheating" on me when he smokes cause he has to hide from me. I also got the "I'm jealous cause he can and I can't". but I'm at the point where we can't afford it anymore. Cigs are $4.50 PER PACK here and I can't afford it. I'm mad cause he feels he can. I told him he gets $10 per week for whatever. NO MORE after the $10. So if he feels he wants to smoke, then he can. Once the money is gone, then so are his smokes. Final, You will get through this. Just PROTECT your quit and you both should find a hobby together. Or find new hobbies apart. I have only asked my husband to NEVER smoke around me or go "hide" when he is home. He only smokes while at work so that way it doesn't hurt my feelings so bad. He has honored that and I have to admit, I'm happy he does. Good luck and please protect YOUR quit. Yes, my advice it tell them they must quit with you. My husband and I quit together and are thriving! I cannot imagine having a smoker around while trying to quit. It's like Kate said, GROSS!!!! I could not kiss a smoker EEWWHHH! So, maybe ask him to quit with you, it would be great! What do you think Final Quit - is he ready??? You're doing fabulous with 4 days, hang in there and stay away from the smokers. Gotta bump this one for the Newbies that have smoking spouses. Some, like mine; have no intention to quit. And you can't make one quit, it's something they have to want. I'm o.k. with it. She smokes outside, but I sometimes visit with her while she smokes. Actually, it never bothered me that she smokes yet. N.O.P.E. Final quit, My hubby and I quit together. Unfortunately, he relapsed 20 days quit. He has continued to smoke since then. It was hard at first to see him smoking. But I don't look at it anymore. Now, I do smell him, and it GROSSES me out!!!! Luckily, I married a clean freak -- he always changes his clothes and showers. That helps some of the time. I am getting used to the smell now though. You will too. Hang in there! Keep your quit, your quit. 4my2girls My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 200 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,019 Amount Saved: $654 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 3 Mins: 26 Seconds: 32

Well, I am back on the band wagon! Thanks for all the advice and encouragement! I went to see my hypnotist yesterday...or hypno-therapist (I think that's what they're called) Anyway, it really works! I can't believe it. Today I don't even want a smoke. Now, I did the hypnosis before and it only lasted a month (that was when I slipped the first time) So, I'm not going to celebrate just yet. But so far so good. The only negative thing is now I think my husband stinks! Thanks for all your support and advise. I hate to say that I slipped on the weekend. The weekends are obviously tougher because I am with my husband more. During the week at least I am away from him at work. Somehow not smoking at work is easy. It's at home that I'm having a hard time. Even though I cracked over the weekend, I am going to keep trying. Hopefully I can set an example. I want my husband to quit too.

Just wondering if anyone has some tricks in dealing with a smoking husband or wife. My husband smokes and currently has no intention of quitting. Although, I hope that in my success I can change his mind. The hard part for me is the desire to join him when he goes out for a smoke. Yes, he smokes outside or in the garage. He never smokes around me or in our home. But, I know what he's doing and I miss smoking with him. My husband smokes...always has and always will. You can look at my stats to know that one can quit with a smoking spouse. The problem is the temptation that you might feel...I see him smoking and I want to smoke. I'm angry because he "gets to smoke" and I don't. Well, that's an issue whether it's him or someone out on the sidewalk. You've got to fix those thoughts. What Pen says is right...focus on your quit, protect it. Don't give it away to anyone else. It must be difficult to live with a constant reminder. I have no tips on dealing with smoking spouses but what I do know is that if your desire to quit is greater than your desire to smoke you will succeed. Keep positive, keep focused and keep quit. Good Luck Penitent d856
