Family?

Actually mine are the DYS'y in that DYSfunctional. AND they forget often the functional part. As the now eldest and the eldest boy they all think that I have 6 hands and as many wallets. OH well... I like being the nice uncle. Can't stand being the constant listener... they can be such victims of themselves and they are family gottalovethem ... Buttons are just buttons and they are pretty on most clothes and I refuse to let them push mine any more. There is no point. Practicing a thick skin here helped a huge amount. They are all gone and have phoned and emailed from their various and distant homes. All have arrived back safe and sound, thank goodness. I must say that there were times when I knew I needed to go out and get away. I just walked the dog, or went to the local market or said hey I'm on my way here anyone want to go. Off we would go and I got to be with the ones I could phathom and the others would go and do their thing. Just as long as everyone was fed and the schedule didn't vary much from what I would normally do I was really okay. Funny thing. I didn't want to get into telling any of them that I had quit or what any of that might mean in relation to any of them. I just didn't need to go there. My favorite neice asked and and noticed and I had a great heart to heart with my friend from Vancouver. MMMM another season, another string of events and triggers down. Don't want to smoke. Think of it often and the thought is like an fly eventually the drone just disappears. Thanks for all of the response to this thread and I will bookmark this so the next group of family can be dealt with in a simple read through. Cheers Phillip :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 198 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,972 Amount Saved: $1485 Life Gained: Days: 32 Hrs: 8 Mins: 50 Seconds: 26

Marie Thanks for coming here to vent. If that is what you need and that is what works, work it. This will all take its own time, one day at a time. But OMG they do stretch me! Now that is FUNNNYY!!!! The one thing I learned during my last quit, was family was a HUGE trigger! I stay away from them when I am first quit. The drama they all have- boy I could write a story or two! Yep Family is a challenge! LOL, I know what you mean, Phillip. Friends, acquaintances, and even foes are one thing. But family members have so much strong, and often conflicting, emotions attached that they are a much greater challenge. Keep up the good quit, Phillip. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 466 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,321 Amount Saved: $1770.8 Life Gained: Days: 86 Hrs: 21 Mins: 11 Seconds: 10

LOL If calgon really took me away all the times I begged for it to, I'd have bought a boatload of stock in it. You're right, new things pop up for us to learn by... the good part is they become less and less! Have a good weekend and enjoy those breaks :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/2/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 577 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 11,549 Amount Saved: $2059.89 Life Gained: Days: 61 Hrs: 3 Mins: 25 Seconds: 37

Phillip, They can't stay forever though, right?! I see many forgotten grocery items and frequent trips to the store in your future ;) I'd imagine that you've told them you quit smoking and so if you need any kind of motivator...imagine what it would be like having to tell them you started smoking again. If your family is anything like mine - that thought is enough to keep me off the cigaretes for a lifetime! Hang tough, we all know you are.
