Coping Skills

The world sure can pile it on at times. I'm almost 8 months into this quit and last night the world made a serious attempt to make me fail. In a little under three hours, I received an email from the school that my son had cheated on a test, an email from the same school that my daughter was failing two classes, a call from my wife that she had hurt her back and needed to be taken in for x-rays and was in pain, and a call from one of the guys who works for me at the theatre that he was quitting and wouldn't be in to cover his shifts, a call from my son saying he missed the bus and didn't know how he was going to get home, and a call from my mom saying her car had broke down and she needed some help. All this started a little after 4pm. I was supposed to meet with my booker at 5pm and I needed to get to the post office before it closed as well to overnight some checks to movie companies. Can you say nervous breakdown???? At one point I actually walked into a convenience store and went straight to the counter thinking about buying a pack of smokes. Then reality kicked in and I got the rolaids I actually went in for and got the hell out of there. By 11:30 last night all had calmed down and my quit was intact. Today is a new day and I'm ready to take whatever comes my way. Go ahead world - do your worst. You can't break me. I'm tougher than anything you can throw my way and I sure as hell don't need a cigarette to cope no matter what you try. SO THERE! Ok - that felt good. I guess I'm still a bit tense. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 231 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,098 Amount Saved: $1963.5 Life Gained: Days: 37 Hrs: 12 Mins: 17 Seconds: 32

CY, WOW, I do not envy you! What a day, I guess distraction really pays off. I don't think you would have had time to smoke anything! Good for you for looking in to the face of the nicodemon and laughing. How about a reward for you today? Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
