Hi Cincere, it's good to hear from you again. I'm sorry for all that you have been going through. It sounds like you learned a hard lesson the hard way. I'm also sad for you that your husband still won't be supportive of your quitting again. It makes things harder on you. Where are you going on your trip? Somewhere great I hope. You sound like you need it. You know you'll have lots of great support when you're feeling ready to do this again. Cincere.... I have questions for you... Did the smoking help your depression or did it make it worse? Did it make you happy again? Did it really give you your buddy back? After being free from the addiction is hiding behind it the same? Your posts seems to be saying both yes and no to me. I'm really not being sarcastic here. I really want to know if you feel better, emotionally and mentally since you went back to smoking. I would think not but have often wondered. If it didn't do anything for you then get back on your quit. You could have almost 30 days under your belt before your trip and it could be a 30 day celebration instead of 100. There are times that I get so aggravated with my quit but I think the thing that aggravates me even more is seeing the addiction win over good people like you that had such a handle on things. Don't give up on yourself and don't wait another day. You are still fighting for your life. That next cigarette could be "the One" that does you in. As always, we are here for you. cincere, I'm so sorry to hear about this. How many days have you been smoking? Why would you want to wait until AFTER your trip to quit again? Especially if you planned this as a REWARD for quitting!!!! I think you should quit NOW and then make it a celebration of your decision to quit again!! Cincere, you can do this... but you have to want it bad enough. You have to dig deep inside of you to find out if you REALLY want to quit or not. Do you? Or are you just fooling yourself? That's a question you have to ask yourself and be honest with the answer. Next, make a list of the reasons why you went back to smoking and figure out why it happened. This isn't the end of the world... or the end of your quit... unless you want it to be. I hope you do some soul searching to figure out what you will do in the future to prevent this again. Crave the Quit! Crap! Addiction really sucks, doesn't it!?! I'm not mad at you, Cincere. I'm mad at tobacco companies, I'm mad at our government for allowing them, I'm mad at your husband. My first reaction is to whap him upside his self-centered head. But then he's just another one of us, isn't he? You've relearned the hard way just how horrid this addiction is, and you've unfortunately carried your family along for the ride. I'm not trying to put a guilt trip on you; just calling it as I see it. I certainly hope you don't subconciously interpret this trip as some kind of reward. If it was me, I'd not go even if it meant losing the money for the tickets, and I'd consider it penance. But I'm not you and this is a personal decision as I so often argue for. If depression is an issue, perhaps you should see your doctor. Anti-depressants aren't for everyone, but perhaps in your case they would be in order. I'm glad you've come back, Cincere. That took guts and shows true strength of character. For that I honor you. When the time comes, we're here for you. It's too bad you didn't talk to your doctor about it instead of "self medicating" with nicotine. You have some tough choices to make right now. Good luck.

If anyone doesn't believe that smoking isn't a nasty, vicious addiction that puts all of us on the level of crack users, then they need to read your post. I am sorry that this happened to you. What really struck me about what you wrote was when you said how sick you were from the smoking, but you hung in there until you "entered the maintenance stage." Please don't dread going through hell week. You now know that you can do it. You now know the coping mechanisms you need. You know you have those in you. Take your trip. Enjoy yourself. You've been through hell, and you deserve that trip whether you quit before or after. And then when you get back, we'll be here waiting for you. As far as your husband goes, he can't help it. He is an addict, too, just like the rest of us. Cincere, Thank you that you posted this as a warning to others who are considering going down this road. It's in the back of everyone's mind who has ever tried to quit and you've given a great picture of the reality of going back. When those tough craves hit we romanticize about how everything was perfect when we smoked. It just isn't true as you've described. Keep your chin up and make the next time your last. It sounds like this was not an easy lesson for you to receive but you can do it.
