LOL Brent! I can just see the permed feathers now. Lady, hope youre feeling better. You asked what we do when were feeling down or disappointed. I try to look the other way. If Im having financial difficulties, I realize that Im healthy and able to work harder to earn enough to make them go away. If Ive spread myself too thin with yes, I can do thats, I try to remember to do what I can and not what I should. When life disappoints me or I just feel really alone in some situation, I look at what I have not the material things, but the things that count the 3 Fs family, friends, and Faith. This is a great thread. Glad you started it. Many good ideas for dealing with a non smoking reality. Hello dear Lady, Are you feeling some let-down? You've had some pretty major goals going for some time.....and now you've reached them. You've celebrated....and it's done. Maybe it's as simple as needing something to strive for? Just a thought. Lady, you know I've been away for a couple of days or I would have chimed in as well. You have received wonderful advice from people who love and respect you. For some reason, your emotional self keeps saying "yes, but....." Do you know what I mean? "Yes, you're right, but..." When you have some quiet peaceful time to yourself, you feel guilty. You feel like you "should" be doing something. Like a counselor told me a long time ago, it's time to get those "shoulds" out of your vocabulary. It's time to say "I want" or "I will" or "I don't want". It's time to affirm the gifts you have received and those you have worked for and say "thank You." Pkease don't dishonor those gifts by saying you don't deserve them. It is a constant battle to see the good. There will never be a time that you will always have positive thoughts. But it is a good and wonderful habit that you can cultivate. So what do you do when those thoughts come in? Delay and distract!!! Love, Rusty :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/13/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 605 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 16,965 Amount Saved: $2117.5 Life Gained: Days: 83 Hrs: 8 Mins: 15 Seconds: 51

Oh! Lady, How I feel for you! What you are feeling is all part of the whole quitting process. Many of us have felt just as you do/did on our long journey. It's so hard when you have been so positive in the past, and helped so many others with positive thoughts etc. You did the right thing to come here and not try to manage it on your own.......I tried to do that and just got more and more down. I should have talked to my friends here as you did. Like you, I smoked at the start due to low self esteem and wanting to 'fit in.' Quitting gave me the best sense of self esteem I could ever have wanted....the ability to say "Damn, but I'm good!!! I did it!!!" All of that, however does not take away the times you are talking about, when you want to sit down with a cigarette for company. We know we will not do it, but I'm not too sure there is something with which to replace that moment we used to have. To tell you the truth, I do not replace it, I just cry. The tears cleanse and I can look forward after that process. Times change. All the time we lose things in our lives, but we also gain so much. I think you are having such a negative time......go with the flow and don't dwell in this stage. Find the positive in the future and go with that instead. I've been where you are my friend, and I've come out the other side. You will too! I keep reiterating what I read years ago...quitting properly takes about 2 years, for weight etc. etc. Take that time and mov witht he changes. As I approach my 2 year anniversary this coming November, I'm sure I will experience more surprises. It's been quite a journey! NEVER LOOK BACK, THE FUTURE IS AHEAD! Love from Lolly. :) ((((((HUGS)))))) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/25/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 625 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 21,898 Amount Saved: 3125 Life Gained: Days: 87 Hrs: 1 Mins: 14 Seconds: 49

Lady, Smoking was a sense of comfort for me during times of anxiety, disappointments, grieving, job loss, loss of a friendship and so forth. How do I cope with these problems and concerns in my life today? Through my spouse, my family, friends and co-workers. We do have people in our lives that really do care. I had to get rid of all the negativity in my live in order to stay quit. This meant even losing some friends in the process. Yes, it was tough and it is still tough. Everyday, I think of how lucky I am to still be smoke-free. All the stresses in my life do not have to be solved by taking a puff of a cigarette. This is absolutely the only thought that keeps me on the journey to stay quit! Hope this helps :). Melanie ________________________ The SSC Support Team
