Reasons to Quit?

17 years ago 0 220 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hey Riverdale Man, Another one: (kind of relates to what Rob and marie said) I went to lunch with a bud, who quit about 4 or 5 years ago. When we sat down, I realized they had turned the whole restaurant into a non-smoking one. It's great not to have to live the table for your mid meal smoke. NascarFan and daatske, that's great. Your good role models for your significant others. Misty Moon, you are doing so well. I relate to the story about the baby- always having to look over your shoulder to make sure non-judgemental people are around- sucked. Now we don't have to do that. Way to go! I don't want my son to be a smoker. He is more likely to be a nonsmoker if he has a nonsmoking mom. I have many others, but my boss actually wants me to do some work today  ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 22 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 876 Amount Saved: $143 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 23 Mins: 32 Seconds: 4

Great thread RD!!!!!!! My #1 reason is my 2 year old son. I only wish I could have quit while I was preggo with him. Try not to beat myself up because I am doing it now. My #2 reason is my health. I am pushing 30 pretty hard and my mortality was starting to be in the forefront of my mind. I want to watch my family grow and not be ill for any of it. I know there are no promises but I am doing what I think will help me in the long run. Even if I have to have faith! I just want to be free and now I am! It feels great and I know my son can be proud of his momma and I am proud of me too. My hubby is just in awe of the fact that I succeeded! He has no excuses now, if I can do it, so can he! The number one reason for me is that smoking as not allowed at so many places and smokers are really diregarded as less than human in society in so many ways that smoking makes no sense anymore. I know this probably seem,to many people, to trivialize the obvious health concerns of smoking and obvious benefits of not smoking: hence smoking never made much sense to begin with. Sorry. I enjoyed smoking and I will admit it. And I do miss it, but not as bad. But the 60's and 70's are over and that's that. I wish societal angst would focus more on the makers of the product than the consumer, but that would involve people actually taking a stand against corporations and government policies, and like I said, the 60's and 70's are over....so that ain't gonna happen. God forbid our complacent youth (and society in general) do any such thing today!! Enough of that. Not smokin in 2006, and that is the way it is! One of the reasons that I quit was so that I would be more able to be healthy. I will turn 50 this year and I wanted more health. I wanted to be more able to breath and get my weight back to normal, that meant physical activity and if I was hacking and coughing I would not be able to get the weight down. I wanted to be in control of my body. I felt that I was controled by the smokes and my behaviour around smoking. Another reason that I quit was so I could spend more time with my family. They just did not want to spend time with me while I smoked and I would have to smoke away from them. My time with them is very valuable and I knew I would have tgo quit in order to spend more time with them. What are your reasons for quitting? I know for me whenever I revisit why I quit I can get back on track and feel more motivated to keep quit. This quit is so I can give my Mom a hug. So I can run to the street car. I am finding as time goes by that this quit brings a gift, in that I can really feel great about myself and what I can accomplish. I get to experience what a great benefit being free from tobacco and smoking really is. Thanks Have a great smoke free day. I hope you will share why you quit and what benefit being quit brings to you and your life.
