Reasons to Quit?

17 years ago 0 583 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
What a great post. You guys are all inspirations to me. Riverdaleman you are doing great, it seems like you really have got alot out of not smoking. Sounds wonderful. This first week is wiping me out, so glad to know it gets better. Nascarfan, I am right there with you babe. I actully went through 2 pregs never could quit completly though. Mistymoon, my youngest is one. I feel like I have already missed so much of him, Becuase of stepping away from him to smoke. My biggest reasons for quiting are my kids.Even this time I thought maybe I needed to be more selfish and do it for my health. Well my health is part of that I guess. I don't want my children to have to take care of sick parents. Or even have to have the agony of watching rents die young. My mom did it with her mom, and almost lost her mind. My kids will not go threw that with me.... Oh back point, did not think I was gonna do it for real this time . Until the other night heard oldest grasping for air in middle of night. The doctors think she is developing asthma. Gee thats a great way to show your kid you care. No more..... They will no longer be subjected to that crap again. With Faith,Love, And Grace we can overcome My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 31 Amount Saved: $4 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 2 Mins: 41 Seconds: 35

Ya know, i never even considered quitting. Never had a reason, never wanted to do it, never had any intention of quitting smoking before the day I died. The last time that I quit and started again, i looked at the cigarette and said "If I smoke this, then i'm never ever quitting again, and I will smoke for the rest of my life." Since then i met and married a great non smoking man, and I had a baby, and I won custody of my 4 other childrne form their abusive father, and really did a ton of exciting things with my life. I smoked all the way through it.. all of it, and never once considered that it needed to be any different. I don't think i'll ever forget the day I decided to quit forever and commited to it, and i've already told that story a bunch of times in here, but a coupel of months before that I got my first notion that I wanted to quit. I took my baby out for breakfast. Hubby went to work early, and the kids were in school, and it was just he and I. We got to our table, and he wouldn't get in his high chair, and just clung to me. I had some anxiety, and actually looked aorund me to see if there was anyone aorund that seemed judgemental enough to say something or give me dirty looks if I lit up with a baby on my lap. (<-- Just typing that out makes me want to cry, and appologise, but I dunno who to appologise too.) I never did light that cigarette with the baby on my lap. I went on with breakfast then focussing on enjoying my time with the baby and not considering the cigarette, and then I was ready to quit right then, right that day. It took me a couple of months to actually quit after that, but i've done it and I can cuddle with my baby anytime that he or I wants, and there's nothing at all getting in the way. That's Freedom... i had no idea that I didn't have freedom until that one day. Hoi Phillip Glad to hear you're having a good day! I was thinking about it for a while, but I thought I would have to do it without the support of Ian. How wrong was I, Ian made the decision to quit the day after his 51st birthday. For me, I just want to be free of the whole stinking mess. And for my health, it started to weigh on my mind that I could be smoking myself into an early grave. And with a packet of 24 now costing nearly 8 USD here in Germany.. Really when you think about it, what's the point? Brave talk now, ask me again later on tonight when I'm sipping a lovely glass of wine... Riverdale man what a great thread! I quit Because: of the coughing, feeling enslaved by smoking, feeling marginal when I smoked outside in my corner, can't smoke anywhere anymore and that's a good thing (helps a lot)and when I was a smoker and couldn't smoke I felt miserable, so I felt miserable when I smoked and miserable when I didn't, what's the use ??????So now I don't smoke I feeeel gooood and I know I will get through this and end up a non-smoker and a better person for doing it. Thank you and have a wonderful non-smoking day :)Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 56 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 847 Amount Saved: $224 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 10 Mins: 42 Seconds: 57

Hi everyone My biggest reason for stopping was to have kids...detoxing now before we start trying. I also hated the fact that smoking controlled me, that I had to plan my social outings around smoking, believe it or not I used to avoid going out if I couldnt smoke!! - how ridiculous! Plus the energy factor...I have so much more energy now....along with anxiety & stress but hey one thing at a time!
